Profiles are automatically created for a user when they register or log into
developerWorks. A user must have a profile to be able to utilize My developerWorks.
A user’s profile can contain both private and public information. A user can choose to keep
mandatory information private except: Full name, and display name

Groups are micro communities that can be public or private. They have a lot of
valuable features for allowing users to create an enriching collaborative environment.

Option Description
Private:
Hidden and restricted to a particular set of users.

This group is not accessed via search or other group listings.
It is only recommended for groups that are sharing confidential
content or have a business critical need for a gated community.
Open:
Publicly available and anyone can join and
contribute.
A public group has a low barrier to entry, encouraging
participation.
Public groups are a great marketing and communication vehicle
to the external IT professional audience.
