What would the world do without dancing? Many styles of this art form are spread from different
cultures around the world, and are performed all over. Cha Cha, samba, ballroom, swing, disco,
and break dance are all unique forms of dance that are performed, but the one with the most class
and rich history is ballet. The elements the combine to form a danceculture include the origin, the
music involved, and the classes of dancers. These dance styles contain different components, but
ballet is an older, more moving, art form that contains graceful dances set to classical music versus

Breakdancing is a much newer style that has been around for less than a century. It originated in
the 1970s in the Bronx, New York with the streets as a stage. Afrika Bambaataa was credited for
forming one of the earliest dance crews entitles the Zulu Kings (From Street to Dance). They
earned a reputation with their breakdancing circles, and then more people joined in, and from
there, the style started to evolve. More well known groups such as the Rock Steady Crew of
New York City helped in surging the popularity of breakdancing in low income communities and
urban areas. In pop culture, many interpretations such as youth alternative and violent gangs
have evolved to merge into a R B funk classification. It is less planned out, and more improvised
based on the rhythm to where there is a named style entitled freestyle (Art of Funk). Short, sharp
motions make up the majority of the terms derived from slang. Hip hop music is used, and unlike
classical, it has lyrics that can be used to convey a message. Living below the poverty line used to
the main theme, but as it evolved, dances became more about drugs, partying, how amazing the
