Past, Present, Future
Abstract
This past, present and future paper will reflect on my personal and professional growth during the time
frame that I was a student at the University of Phoenix. One of the themes that are explored in this
paper is that education is a lifetime pursuit. Another theme is what I am taking away from the
institution now that I have completed my course of study. Finally the paper sets future career and
personal goals to continue my lifetime of learning.
Past Present and Future
Past
I have always valued education, and have a great yearning for knowledge. Prior to attending the
University of Phoenix I had attended Oral Roberts University, majoring in Management Information
Systems, for three years. My studies at Oral Roberts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My written work has gotten better and I have sharpened some of my information retrieval and
utilization skills.
The two general education courses taken during my course of study that have had the greatest impact
on my current and potential employment are Skills for Professional Development and Critical
Thinking and Computer Logic. I chose these courses because that helped to develop skills and tactics
that will help me to be a better employee to future employers as well helped me develop personally as
well.
I chose the Skills for Professional Learning class because it taught the concepts of team learning and
team problem solving. The most important thing that I learned in this course is what is referred to as
the 4P Meeting Management Model by the authors of the book Tools for Teams. This model teaches
that a successful team meeting consists of a defined purpose, the right participants, a plan and a
defined process.
I chose the Critical Thinking class because it was the first class I ever had that really defined and
elaborated on what critical thinking is. Critical thinking is the subconscious process that we go
through to solve problems, we can however teach ourselves to be better critical thinkers. In Keys to
Success the authors basically say that critical thinking deals with asking questions, considering
without judgment as many response as you can, and choosing responses that are as complete and
accurate as possible .
The two

Executive Officer Ceo Is Ernie Herrman
A chief executive officer (CEO) is the head of the company that ultimately finalizes all decisions for a
company. He or she is in charge of every decision that is made. The CEO only reports to one body,
which is the board of directors (BOD). The TJX companies CEO is Ernie Herrman. The TJX
Companies trace back to 1919 when they were Marmaxx, and now they have 3600 hundred store in 9
different countries on 3 different continents. They have stores by different names, the ones that are
located in the USA are: Marshalls, TJMaxx, Home Goods, and Sierra Trading Post. This is a discount
retail company that buys their product from other brand, designers, stores, or manufacturers in bulk or
out of season merchandise. Their company is growing every day. They opened the Home Goods and
Sierra Trading Post, which is based online, stores only a few years back and that is when the company
name switched from Marmaxx to TJX Companies.
Herman started working for the TJX Companies in 1989. After holding several different position with
the company he became pressident of Marmaxx. In 2008 he got a position as Senior Executive Vice
President over Marmaxx in Canada, and in 2011 he got the position as a president of the TJX
companies. In 2015 he joined the BOD, and in January of 2016 he finally became CEO after Carol
Meyrowitz stepped down ( Board of Directors 2016). Working the way up with a company is one of
the most successful ways to grow with the company and gain their trust, and that is what

Multiple Themes In Maus By Art Spiegelman
In the graphic novel, Maus, written by Art Spiegelman, there are multiple themes present throughout
the comics. One in particular, that becomes very repetitive, is the theme of how the way one was
treated in his or her past can influence the way they treat others in the present. This theme is evident
on page 45, where Artie and Vladek are eating dinner. During their meal, Vladek notices that his son is
not eating everything that is on his plate. Vladek then states, So it has to be, always you must eat all
what is on your plate (Spiegelman 45). The only reason why Vladek was so harsh on his son for not
eating all that was given to him was because when he was younger, his parents would force him to eat
everything on his plate, regardless if

Rachael s Role As An Ineffective Leader
As a Naval Officer and nurse, I sit through numerous meetings on any given day. I participate in
staffing meetings, competency meetings, process improvement meetings, patient care meetings, and
planning meetings, just to name a few. While sitting through and participating in different meetings, I
am able to witness several leadership styles; some good and some bad. The most common style
employed by higher level leaders (Admirals, Commanding Officers, and Officer s In Charge) is
distributive leadership while lower level leaders (Division Officers, Department Heads, and Chiefs)
tend to use the expectancy theory, both discussed in our Green (2013) text. However, being under
ineffective leadership for the last three years, I have seized the opportunity to learn what styles, traits,
and actions are ineffective and why different levels of leaders employ different leadership styles. ...

never make eye contact when speaking with more than two people. She also employs passive
aggressive tactics which could be a result of her lack of self confidence. However, while I do not truly
know the reasons for her lack of self confidence, poor communication skills, and passive
aggressiveness, I do know those are ineffective leadership traits and I will not employ those as I gain

Charles Mingus Inspiration
Charles Mingus was a jazz bassist, composer, bandleader, also was the one of the most important
figures in twentieth century. He was born in Nogales, Arizona in 1922 raised in Watts, California. In
his life, he was continued to develop the bop and blues. His compositions ranged wildly in mood and
dynamics, from puntillistic counterpoint to massive Wagner ian explosions and was the first jazz
musician since Ellington who could compete with classical composers . His earliest musical
inspiration was influenced by hearing the works of Duck Ellington and singing, such as church choir,
group singing even though his mother only allowed church music at home. He studied double bass

Essay on The Color of Water
At the beginning of The Color of Water, James McBride s mother Ruth goes on to introduce particular
aspects about her upbringing. She mentions how she grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family and
begins to describe both her parents. Ruth s father was a very cold and hard individual who didn t care
too much for his children s overall well being, while her mother was very sweet and kind in nature.
She also goes on to talk about how her family was originally from Poland but decided to move to the
United States from fear of oppression from the Russian government. Along with outside forces that
proved to be a problem for Ruth s family were similarities in oppressive behaviors in their family as
well. Since Ruth s family were Orthodox Jews, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The middle of the book takes more of a look of some of the prejudices that both Ruth and James went
through during their upbringing. Ruth begins to talk about the difficulties that came with being Jewish
and living in the South during that time period. She was always the target for mockery by her peers,
but fortunately met a girl named Frances who truly accepted her for who she was. They would spend a
lot of time together, most of the time at Frances house due Tateh s discern for gentiles. James also
faced similar prejudices at school. Since his mother put so much of an emphasis on schoolwork, James
and all of his siblings would have to go to predominantly Jewish schools and were the objects of
ridicule for the other students. There was one instance in particular in which James was asked by his
classmates to dance because of a predisposed idea that because he was black he could dance. He
danced for the class, but conflicting thoughts were rushing through his mind. He felt accepted by his
peers, but also ashamed that he stooped so low to gain that acceptance. This example as well as other
instances that occurred with his siblings showed the racial tensions that were filling the air at that
time. The book begins talks about other conflicts that arose with James and Ruth. James took a
downward spiral during his teenage years,

The Impact of Cell Phone Radiation on Our Health
Cell phones represent a type of technology that has been around for more than over fifty years; it has
only been recently that many people began to use cell phones as a major part of their everyday life. In
the past cell phones were for business people to conduct their business, but in today s society every
one owns a cell phone. Cell phones are interesting, useful and also play a major role in our life s
bringing people closer and keeping in touch with one another. Most people do not know and
understand the physics of a cell phone. Cell phones are also known as cellular phone, hand phone, and
commonly known as a mobile phone. A cell phone is an electric device that can make and receive

Electromagnetic Spectrum:
Radio Waves:
How they are made:
Radio waves are made by a range of transmitter, depending on its wavelengths. They are also given
off by stars, sparks and lightening that is why you can hear interference on your radio while in a
thunderstorm.
Uses:
Radio waves are the lowest frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum, and are mainly used for
communications with others.
Dangers:
Large doses of radio waves are believed to be dangerous it can cause you cancer, leukaemia and many
other dangerous and fatal disorders which can cause you death. Some people have said that the very
low frequency field from overhead power cables near their homes has affected their health.
Cell phone antennae are not directional. Waves transmit in all directions, including your body
The visible spectrum is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is visible to (can be detected
by) the human eye. Electromagnetic radiation in this range of wavelengths is called visible light or
simply light. http://www.edinformatics.com/math_science/electromagnetic_spectrum.htm

Persuasive Essay On Sexual Orientation
Love is a tricky topic. Many have been persecuted because of who they have loved. A common debate
in society is that sexual orientation is a choice. Nurture will say that the environment around a person
plays a role, and nature will say that sexual orientation has to do with science. The nurture argument is
a common viewpoint because many can never imagine liking the same sex, but then why is the nature
viewpoint scientifically backed up?
Before jumping into each argument, sexual orientation needs to be defined. Sexual orientation is about
who you re attracted to and want to have relationships with, according to Planned Parenthood
(Parenthood). Sexual orientation is not the same as gender identity. Sexual orientation has to do with
who a person is attracted to, and gender identity is about what gender a person identifies with. There
are many different labels that people put on people who have a different sexual orientation than what
is considered the common, which is a heterosexual relationship. The most common two are gays for
men who like men, and lesbians who are women that like women. There are also people who identify
as bisexual meaning they like both male and female. Another group that has a different sexual
orientation is people who are attracted to more than just the average male and female, they can be
attracted to basically anyone, which includes people who are transgender, genderqueer, or intersex.
They are named pansexual or queer. Lastly, there are people

Statistical Handling Data Coursework on High School Students
Statistical Handling Data Coursework: High School For this handling statistical data coursework I will
be investigating the heights and weights of students of years 7 to 11 in High School. Although this is a
fictitious school the data is based on a real school. I will look for a trend in the heights and weights of
the students to see if the taller they are, the more they weigh. This is my hypothesis. My Null
hypothesis is that there is no correlation between height and weight, and my Alternative hypothesis is
that there is strong, positive correlation between them. I will then investigate the heights of boys in
years 7 and compare them to the girls, and then do the same in year 11. I will then be able to compare
these two sets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Height and weight is continuous data so only some graphs and calculations can be done. I have
decided to select a sample size of 100 students because 1183 students are too many. I won t be able to
compare the data well since I will have such a wide range of results. I also won t be able to fit all the
information on one graph or one box plot making the comparison even more difficult. I will be able to
cope with 100 students heights and weights better. In order to get a sample of 100 students, I will take
a stratified sample of each year group, and then of each gender within the year groups. I will use
stratified sampling because using this I can get a fair sample that is proportional and to the ratio of the
original number of students within each year group out of the whole school. Once I have my stratified
sample of each year group, I will use random sampling to choose which of the students I will take my
data from. This is a fair way of sampling due to the fact that there will be no biased decision as to who
is picked for their data. The following data is what I will use in order to take a stratified sample of 100
students: Year Group Number of Boys Number of Girls Total 7 151 131 282 8 145 125 270 9 118 143
261 10 106 94 200 11 84 86 170 Total 604 579 1183 To take a stratified sample of the year groups I
will do the following calculations: Year Group Calculation Total (answer) 7 (282/1183) x 100 = 24 8

Orgon And Tartuffe Relationship

Even though both Tartuffe and Orgon can be said to have personalities or qualities that can identify
them as unreliable characters, they still have some differences in some aspects. It is very easy to say

been a royal servant of the king and had served him well. Right before the opening of the play, he was
a respectable man who was honored by his family and friends. However, later in the play, he does not

Analysis Of Forrest Gump
The film Forrest Gump uses a lot of information and historical events and expresses them using
aesthetic techniques such as sound, cinematography, editing, etc. The director Robert Zemeckis uses
form to explain the overall meaning of the film specifically with symbolism from popular phrases and
gives visual examples throughout the story.
The beginning of the film starts with Forrest sitting on a bench at a bus stop. A lady walks over and
sits down next to him and begins to read her book as he introduces himself to her. He then offers her
some chocolate that she quietly declines. Forrest then says, My mama always said that life was like a
box of chocolates. You never know what you re gonna get . This phrase shows meaning to the entire
film because Forrest is always led to a new thing or event in life that had no relation to the last.
Zemeckis place this scene strategically at the beginning and it helped set up the rest of the story.
Forrest is seen a few different times during other parts of the film with boxes of chocolate. This first
scene is also the beginning of where Forrest starts to tell his life story. The director uses a diegetic
narraration by Forrest to lead the story. He continues to talk even if the person sitting next to him on
the bench has changed.
The box of chocolates line resembles how Forrest sees life differently. He grew up being told by his
mother on what he should and shouldn t do to help him get through life. He had the mind set of doing
any opportunity that came to him. He did all kinds of incredible things such as playing on a college
football team, joining the military, starting a shrimp business, etc. Editing can be shown during the
historical events that Forrest participates in such as when African Americans were accepted to his
school. The effect was in black and white to show an older scenario.
The best use of cinematography was at the very beginning with the feather before the box of
chocolates line. The camera follows the feather as it floats down towards the ground. The camera
angle is positioned with a close up on the feather and with a blurry Forrest on the bench in the
background. The feather then lands on his shoe where he picks it up to place inside his Curious

Feminism In Gimba Kakanda s A Letter To My Unborn Daughter
In A Letter to My Unborn Daughter, Gimba Kakanda writes, Sweetheart: This letter is a betrayal of
my previous convictions, and an apology for actually allowing a society of chauvinists to train my
mind into agreeing that the womenfolk are indeed inferior, merely created from our ribs to be chained
into marital slavery. Feminism, as evinced in Kakanda s letter, is a particularly urgent issue in the
genre of world literature. In countries with a history of colonialism, those who are able to speak and
who they speak for are vitally important questions. In fact, many parallels exist between the
colonialism and the oppression of women: language, participation, and land. Because of the inherent
connection postcolonialism and feminism, many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To legitimize their claims to ownership of other countries, the colonists used anthropological theories
which increasingly portrayed the peoples of the colonized world as inferior, childlike, or feminine,
incapable of looking after themselves ... and requiring the paternal rule of the west. In fact, the
practice of describing race in gendered terms emphasized the masculinity of colonizers, while
effeminizing the native peoples. This tactic was used in colonial India when the British officials
attempted to pass the Ilbert Bill. This legislation emphasized the stereotypes of the manly Englishman
and the effeminate Bengali babun in order to argue that Indian subjects were not able to competently
decide the fate of Englishmen in criminal cases. In this case, white, British women defended the
Bengalis right and ability to decide legal outcomes. These women, like the Bengali men, were
disqualified from playing an active part in politics. Recognizing their commonality in situation, the
women stood up for the Bengali men and protested the Ilbert Bill.
However, colonist women were not always allies to the native peoples. Postcolonial feminist literature
often uncovers and describes their participation in the system of colonization. The writers of

Meaning Of Sacrament
The word sacrament comes from Latin word Sacramentum the Greek word mysterion is equivalent to
Sacramentum and it is used by Paul in Ephesians when he is speaking about marriage. This is a great
foreshadowing Mysterion; I mean that it refers to Christ and the church. In later usage, the term
Sacramentum emphasizes the visible sign of the hidden reality of salvation which was indicated by the
term Mysterium. In this case, Christ himself is the mystery of salvation For there is no other mystery
of God, except Christ Jesus. The synonymous of the word Sacramentum in the Bible is Mysterion,
Orthodox Church uses the word mystery to mean sacrament.
The saving work of Jesus and sanctifying humanity is the sacrament of salvation, is revealed and
active in the Church s sacraments and which Eastern Churches also call the holy mysteries. The seven

A sacrament properly speaking is that which is ordained to signify our sanctification. In which three
things may be considered, the very cause of our sanctification, which is Christ s passion. The form of
our sanctification, which are grace and the virtues, and the ultimate end of our sanctification, which is
eternal life. And all these are signified by the sacraments. Consequently, a sacrament is a sign that is
both a reminder of the past that is the passion of Christ and an indication of that which is effected in us
by Christ s passion. That is grace and a prognostic that is a foretelling of future. St Augustine has a
different way of explaining the sacraments, for him the sacraments are visible words and relationship
with Christ and the Church when He identifies them as visible words to be received in faith.
Sacraments are visible signs of invisible reality. Sacraments both reveal and veil their inner

Stress And The Human Brain
When we encounter a threat that we feel we do not have the resources to deal with, a stimulus known
as stressors are released and as a result, makes us stressed. These stressors activate the stress response
system which sends a cascade of biological events thus releasing the stress hormones known as
adrenaline and cortisol. The hormones cause our body to go into a Flight or Fight mode and can affect
us either positively or negatively. By going into flight or fight mode our blood pressure, breathing, and
heart rate increases meanwhile there is a decrease in digestive activity and the liver produces more
glucose for energy. The topic of stress is a very popular area of study for those interested in human
sciences. In particular, stress is often viewed through the scopes of a Psychologist, Sociologist and an
Anthropologist.
The Psychologist s perspective revolves around relations between stress and the human brain. One of
the questions they might ask would be if an individual can be born with stress. The answer is
sometimes but not often. Researches at the University of Edinburgh found that mother s wombs and
babies brains contain a chemical protecting them from a mother s stress. However, if this chemical is
unavailable, then the mothers are potentially exposing their unborn babies to stress. The study also
discovered that the babies exposed to stress in the womb tend to be more susceptible to anxiety and
depression. A psychologist may also be interested in studying

Lumumba Revolution
The possibility of independence in the Congo became real in the 1950s, when Europe was still weak
from World War II and there was a sudden spike in radical political activity from Congolese elites,
who created political parties that demanded more freedom to govern themselves. From LOOK UP
DATE up until then, the Congo had been a colony controlled by Belgium. However, as Belgian
control became more bureaucratic in an attempt to improve the lives of the natives and local
administrators found themselves with less power, treatment of Congolese workers in mines and

However, it is difficult to get an overarching picture of what is happening to the Congo when the story
is told from the perspectives of the daughters, who only pick up the snippets of rebellion and news that
filter into their village, which is interpreted by each of them differently. By understanding the political
turmoil that the Congo faces in the post colonial era from a historical perspective, it is easier to see the
parallels that Kingsolver built between what s going on in the outside world and the events in the
personal lives of the Prices. Compared to the Congo s struggle for a stable nation, arrogant and
exacting Nathan Price becomes a representation of all of Western culture, which forces its way into the
Congo, hell bent on extracting its resources and convinced that the inferior African society is in need
of fixing. The Belgians and American business brought civilization to the Congo! American aid will
be the Congo s salvation claims Price, failing to consider that the Americans and Belgians also abused
the African natives (Kingsolver 121). Methuselah becomes a symbol for the Congo itself, weak and
unable to fend for himself after years of domestication and captivity, just as the Congo was
unorganized after decades of Belgian imperialism. And on the same day that the Congo reaches its

Abolishment of Animal Testing Essay
Have you ever really thought about what happens during animal testing? How the animals are treated,
or what tortures they have to face on a day to day basis? More than one hundred million animals suffer
and die every year through animal testing. Ninety five percent of animals used in experimentation aren
t even covered under the Animal Welfare Act, which regulates the treatment of the animals that are
used for testing. Some animals are abused and mistreated so badly that they die before they are even

A mouse cannot speak for itself, but no living creature would willingly go through some of the
horrendous procedures done on test animals.
For the most part, a majority of the cruel experiments done to animals are extremely pointless. It has
been reported that researchers will inject large amounts of LSD (acid) into elephants, just to see what
would happen. The side effects of LSD in humans has already been established, so injecting elephants
with the drug was highly unnecessary. Monkeys are also victims of pointless drug experimentations.
For the most part, everyone is already aware of the harmful side effects that occur from smoking while
pregnant. However, the federal government still grants researchers 10 million dollars to inject
pregnant monkeys with nicotine. The nicotine causes the developing monkey fetuses to have lung
damage and other birth defects. The unborn babies are then cut out of the mothers and killed so the
researchers can perform autopsies on their organs. That is not all; the Wake Forest University Baptist
Medical Center was awarded $71,623 in stimulus funds to feed cocaine to monkeys. Even though the
effects of cocaine are already known for humans. The list of pointless animal experiments goes on and
on. What are researchers even gaining from these useless experiments?

Songs Of The City, Or Talkin New York
Songs of the City, or Talkin New York Many New York songs refer to an artist s first time in New
York City. Many come for an opportunity to become a star or just to see the many sites that New York
City has to offer. A New York song reminds people how great this city is and everything it has to offer.
Despite a stereotype of crime and how dirty the city is, many still dream of calling this city their
home. The city that never sleeps always seems to have its arms open to anyone who is willing to work
hard to achieve their dreams, and this seems to be the main attraction of the city. When discussing
New York City and the significance of her song Welcome to New York, Taylor Swift said I started the
album with Welcome To New York because New York has been an important landscape and location
for the story of my life in the last couple of years... It s like an electric city, and I approached moving
there with such wide eyed optimism. I saw New York as a place of endless potential and possibilities
and you can hear that reflected in this music and in this song (Strecker). She came here to get inspired
and become a star, so New York City has great importance to her. Usually people come to New York
because they see it as a great opportunity to be able to achieve what they want to achieve and follow
their dreams. The lines Everybody here wanted somethin more/ Searchin for a sound we hadn t heard

In philosophy, substance dualism is the idea that the mind and body are two distinct things. A
substance dualist believes that the behavior and characteristics of the mind could never be fully
explained by the empirical scientific laws that dictate the physical world, and because of this, the mind
and the body should be seen as distinct entities. This differs immensely from the ideas physicalist
have. Physicalist believe that all of the characteristics of the mind can be explained by observing the
behavior of the brain, and if physicalist fail to explain a characteristic of the mind with the knowledge
of biology, chemistry, physics and anatomy they currently have, they simply excuse these failures as
things that will eventually be explained by future scientific discoveries. Leibniz s law argument is one
of the most notable arguments in favor of substance dualism. Leibniz s law is a mathematical law
known as the indiscernibility of identicals. This law states that if two variables, x and y, are identical,
then the two variables must share all of the same characteristics. Therefore, if the variables have any
different characteristics, they are not identical. Descartes uses this law to argue in favor of substance
dualism by discussing different characteristics the mind and body have that they do not share.
Descartes claims that whereas the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

For The Infertile A High-Tech Treadmill Analysis
In For the Infertile, a High Tech Treadmill, it takes us through Nancy Alisberg and Michael Albano
attempts to have a child. It explains how the couple is having a hard time conceiving, and try various
procedures to see if they have any success. After three unsuccessful attempts at conceiving a test tube
baby, the Brooklyn couple had come to the seashore to bury their dream of having a biological child.
There, Ms. Alisberg and Mr. Albano, both lawyers, both in their early 40 s, pulled lists from their
pockets on which each had written characteristics of the other that they would miss in not having a
baby from their own eggs and sperm. They read the lists aloud and then, because it was too windy to
burn them, as they had planned, they buried

Another discovery that may serve as a marker of an event is microspherules. A variety of
microsherules have been discovered in the PTB layers of the Meishan section (Xu et al., 1989). The

The Importance Of English Literature
High school has been my most treasurable experience so far; a time where I have learnt about a range
of topics and developed the skills to view things from a personal perspective. For this, I owe a great
thanks to all my English teachers; especially Mrs Hinds, who is here with us today and Mrs Lyndon,
who helped prepare us for our final stretch of school. While preparing for this speech, when I read the
assessments from the past two years, it surprised me to realise how much I had missed the point of
each of the tasks. Only now while nearing the end this twelve year part of my life, have I realised the
importance of each individual topic. I realised that no other subject has delved into such a range of
diverse matters from the present and past. Just as in Harper Lee s quote from To Kill a Mockingbird :
People generally see what they look for and hear what they listen for . What I missed were the
fascinating features of our culture, encapsulated in varying English literature; which of course, were
obvious when studying the works of Shakespeare or of the Romantic poets of the eighteenth and
nineteenth century. But only after my interest in the subject spiked was I able to understand that I was
missing deeper aspects hidden within all types of literature. [linking sentence] A form of literature I
used to enjoy in its most meaningless state was music. Without giving it a second thought, I used to
view music as empty entertainment until we analysed a song and poem for The Beat

How Gardening Affects The World Of Science
Introduction
Science offers children, many different hands on, mind on experiences, allowing them to explore and
engage in the world around them. This report covers how gardening allows students to immerse in the
world of Science. Exposing children to the different stages of gardening allows them to explore and
connect how and why things happen, and help them to build awareness towards the environment in
which they live in. There are three different gardening experiences in this report, which were observed
and documented weekly. The three plants in this report include; a black bean, which was planted from
seeds, a celery offcut and radish, which was planted from seeds. Each had different stages of

Each lesson is designed to allow students to have a hands on mind on experience by connecting what
was learnt and with the world around them.
Growing a garden
The black bean seeds were planted in a pot, which contained soil from the backyard vegetable garden
and cow manure. The pot was placed outside, in the shade of other plants in the backyard. By day
eight the seeds had not germinated; therefore the pot was moved where it would get more than six
hours of direct sunlight a day, which was the suggested amount required (Grow This, 2016, para. 3).
With enough sunlight and the soil being watered each day the seeds germinated by day sixteen. The
growth then became very rapid; however, there were signs of bugs eating the leaves due to the holes
that could be seen. A bug spray was applied to the plant in the hope that the plant will survive. This
spray was used twice a week and helped keep the bugs away and allowed the leaves to continue to
grow.
The black bean plant was exposed to a hot and dry Summer. By planting the black bean in a pot, it
meant that shade could be applied when the harsh weather was due to arrive (Tuton, 2010, para. 3).
The pot was relocated on days which would damage the growth of the plant and then returned to the
previous location when the weather cooled down.
The stems of the black bean plant measured in at 15 centimetres and sticks were added to help with
the growth. However,

What Is Literary Devices In The Ones Who Walk Away From...
Nothing in the world is perfect. In The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, LeGuin Ursula shows
how Omelas is a utopia, but their flaw is in the basement. LeGuin s persuades throughout the story of
Omelas that wherever there is light there is darkness. Within The Ones Who Walk Away From
Omelas, LeGuin uses multiple points of views and would sometimes ask the reader questions midway
through the story. Through the word choices and diction used, LeGuin makes the sentence powerful.
From the use of multiple strategies in the text, such as transitions, formal/informal language, and word
choice, LeGuin makes this story open for readers to let them think about what it means to be happy.
LeGuin says Joyous! How is one to tell about joy? How to describe the citizens of Omelas? , this is an
uncommon way to phrase the sentence. By having an uncommon sentence structure, the reader is now

The Impact Of Internet On The World Wide Web
Since its introduction, the World Wide Web has been an electronic hub for people to share thoughts
anonymously with others all over the globe, however the internet has been used for activities deemed
illicit. Governments have responded by limiting the access people have to certain parts of the web and
monitoring people s internet activities. There are people who believe that these governments actions
have violated civil rights. In order to protect their anonymity, people have turned to The Onion Router
(TOR). TOR is a free web browser which protects people s anonymity and allows them to avoid
censorship of the World Wide Web. Users of TOR can browse the web without their identities or
locations being monitored by anyone. TOR does this by sending user traffic through a complex
network consisting of thousands of relays that conceal a user s identity. The term onion refers to the
onion like application layers of encryption. TOR encrypts the user s information multiple times and is
then sent to its destination without compromising security during the transmission of user data. This
data is randomly bounced through a network of relays run by volunteers around the globe. NSA
characterized TOR as the kind of high secure, low latency internet anonymity with no contenders for
the throne in waiting (Harris, Hudson). Attacks against TOR are an active area of academic research
and are welcomed by TOR. Onion routing was developed in the mid 1990s at the US Naval Research

Adam And Eve In Homer s Odyssey
Adam and Eve, these names are synonymous with how human nature conquers logical thinking. Eve
was enticed by the apple, she became selfish and was ingenuous of the consequences. Today, many are
overtook by temptation, apathetic of the possible consequences. This morality confliction even
appears in literature, such as the Odyssey. In the Odyssey by Homer, when hunger for pride interferes
with heroism, the characters susceptibility to temptation heightens. Odysseus portrays cockiness
which ignites his witty actions if he is faced with obstacles. These actions are seen throughout the
story, especially when he has an audience. Odysseus has the need to sustain a perfect image, one
where he deludes others into believing he is godly. His hubris ... Show more content on

Its as if his will to keep his dignity overrules his actions, that he cannot accept being looked down
upon. His need to control everything at all times shows how manipulative he can be. This
manipulation is showed in another section of the Odyssey, where Odysseus causes his crew to believe
that there is a way out without death. Odysseus states, Should know what the goddess Circe foretold.
Better we should all know, live or die. We may still beat death and get out of this alive. ( Book12XII,
162 164) Circe had foreshadowed many losses if they chose to continue this journey, yet Odysseus
made the decision to continue on. ( some may argue idk how to start this ) This could be seen as a
heroic action displaying bravery and courage yet this action only magnifies Odysseus other side. This
other side instead portrays him as a person who easily falls into their desires and temptation. This
transpires because of his hunger for kleos which falls under the category of pride. Kleos overtakes him
causing him to do irrational actions and being selfish, kleos interfered in this situation by making him
more willing to sacrifice his men, knowing there is no way out. To head

Dj Kol Herc Hip Hop History
Like any style of music, hip hop has roots in other forms, and its evolution was shaped by many
different artists, but there s a case to be made that it came to life precisely on this day in 1973, at a
birthday party in the recreation room of an apartment building in the west Bronx, New York City. The
location of that birthplace was 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, and the man who presided over that historic
party was the birthday girl s brother, Clive Campbell better known to history as DJ Kool Herc,
founding father of hip hop.
When hip hop music first developed in the late 1970s, not many people knew about it. It was created
in the poorest districts of New York City by African American and Latino teenagers as part of a hip
hop scene that also produced breakdancing and graffiti art. Many of these young people were
unemployed, but some found work as DJs in discos where they learned deejaying techniques like how
to use two turntables and a DJ mixer to play records non stop. Sometimes they d also deejay at free
block parties in their neighbourhoods where they d play funk and disco tracks non stop and ask a

esque structure that takes up an entire city block. The Mission Inn s Spanish architecture and lush
green variety of trees and bushes can be seen from a mile away. Taking an aerial view of Downtown
Riverside allows one to see what sets this entire city block apart. The tops of every building that make
up the Inn are colored a foreign maroon red which greatly contrast with the rest of the city s boring
gray rooftops. The structure makes a giant upside down horseshoe shape which is centered around a
gorgeous sparkling pool, which itself is surrounded by a ring of greenery that encompasses the entire
center of the U shape. Behind the U are several wings that make up the rest of the Inn, which include
rooms for guests to stay in and all of the other commodities that the hotel has for visitors, such as a
museum filled with artwork and artifacts, and several different dining options.
Before entering the ancient luxurious Spanish castle through the main entrance, one walks through
walkways filled with rich shrubbery and plants that line the wall and the fence closest to the street.

valet parked. Entering the Mission Inn in Downtown Riverside during the night time was a

Feminist Theory In The Movie The Accused
1
1. Introduction
Feminist theory is a supporter of equality for man and women. For such long time, mostly the old
days, there were so many limitations to what a lady should be or permitted to do, throughout the years
with the assistance of education and acknowledgment that all sexual orientations are and should be
equal, this has become less and less over time but it still exist at this very moment. In the movie The
Accused , Sarah Tobias (Jodie Foster) is ruthlessly assaulted by three men in a bar while individuals
watch and cheer. A district Attorney Kathryn Murphy (Kelly McGillis) takes the case, however, allows
the rapists to receive a mild sentence. A distraught Sarah decides to seek punishment for the men who
witnessed and encouraged the assault. To get justice, Sarah must take the stand and revisit the night of
her attack in this drama based on true events. In this essay, I will dive into the film The Accused then
explain what the feminist theory really means and its background and lastly, apply the theory to the
film to better understand how it works in reality.
2. The Accused
After having a bad fight with her boyfriend, Sarah Tobias goes to a bar to sit down to chat with her
great friend. They sit and discuss anything to get her mind off of her boyfriend issue which prompts
her flirting with one of the guys at the bar. She had an impression that he was funny and cool, so
appreciated his company. She starts drinking and smoking with the guy, which was a bad idea.

Many aspects of the way people lived have changed between the times of the Romantic era and the
Classic era. Music and the Enlightenment were very big helps to this major change between eras and
in the way the world worked and how society functioned. The Enlightenment and the curiosity of man
was the cause of the exploration and discovery of new lands all around the world. These historical

compositions that were written at the time. These stories, songs, and operas contain hidden messages

eras stated previously. Artists like Mozart and Haydn, and composers of opera like Giuseppe Verdi, all
have contributed to putting details of the events of the time period into their works. These genius

was one of the greatest and most famous opera composers to live during the Romantic era. His operas,

Separation Of Church And State
Separation of Church and State
The United States of America has its history written in religion. Religion and government are
important topics in almost every citizen s daily life. The act of extrication religion and politics has
been a complicated topic for many years. Because the United States of America has so many roots in
religion, many political figures prey on the religious beliefs in their civil duties as a public servant.
According to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, Throughout the nation s history, political
and social movements from abortion to women s suffrage to civil rights have drawn upon religious
institutions for moral authority, inspirational leadership and organizational muscle. The United States
has a long standing tradition of separating church and state but almost all politicians run on a
campaign that encompasses many religious ideals. According to Pew recent elections more than ever
have had religion deeply woven into the fabrics of politics. Religion has found its way into almost all
of the fabrics of our lives and has been leaking its way into one thing that was originally supposed to
be kept separate. This controversy even dates back to twenty three B.C and can be found deep in the
roots of the Roman Empire, can be found in the constitution, but for America to be a Land of the Free

Rational Choice Theory On Alcohol And Violence
Alcohol is highly used substance across the country and the most frequent cause of criminal acts, but
cannot be the sole reason for the cause of criminal acts when an individual s background has a
contributing factor. To understand alcohol related violence we must know the potential crimes that can
be a product of alcohol and what contributing factors lead the actor to the incident. One must also
understand how alcohol related violence is a rational choice of the individual and society s belief that
we suffer the appropriate consequences of our own actions. Therefore, Rational Choice Theory is
applied to the laws that govern criminal acts when the actor had the choice to act as society expects.
Many critics of RCT believe that punishment is not always the answer and that offenders have
environmental and medical factors that cause their criminal behavior. Theorist that believe in the
Positivism Theory believe there is a reason for the offense and the behavior can be corrected. Each are
different in views, but both hold the offender accountable.
ALCOHOL RELATED VIOLENCE
Alcohol use and violence are common in our society because many participate in drinking as a social
activity, whether it is casual or frequent. Alcohol related violence happens when an individual has
consumed an amount to cause his or her actions to become uncontrollable and resulting in a criminal
act being committed. (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 1997) Understanding the

are known and used today by people that are not in tribes. There is even a school program in Rough
Rock, Arizona that holds classes and programs that teach the traditional beliefs and ceremonies to
kids. Native American medicine will always be a big part of the medical field and will always have an
underlying effect on it whether people want to think so or not. It may not be a very well known topic

Malcolm Gladwell Complexity And The Ten Thousand Hour Rule...
Malcolm Gladwell and the Ten Thousand Hour Rule When someone is passionate about something, it
becomes their talent or hobby. If they want to pursue that and make it more than a talent or specialty,
they might make it their career. One talent that can easily be turned into a career is writing. There are a
countless amount people who are passionate about writing and become authors or writers. An author,
in particular who is excellent at writing and great at constructing solid arguments, is Malcolm
Gladwell. In Complexity and the Ten Thousand Hour Rule , author Malcolm Gladwell constructs his
argument that in cognitively demanding fields there are no naturals, by using anecdotes, quoting
experts, and providing statistics.
Malcolm Gladwell supports his claim that in cognitively demanding fields there are no naturals, by
writing interesting anecdotes that show examples. For example, the article contains an anecdote in
talking about how Mozart s earliest works were not outstanding; his earliest masterwork was created
when he was twenty one years old, showing he had already been practicing for ten years and he had to
practice to create his masterwork. Gladwell argues that even Mozart was not a natural. According to
Gladwell s article, he shares a story about the Beatles and how they played eight hours every day for
two hundred seventy nights over the course of a year and a half. This evidence shows that they
practiced long hours, and when they got to the United States they

Essay on The Afro-Americans and The Civil War
The Afro Americans and The Civil War
No officer in this regiment now doubts that the key to the successful prosecution of this war lies in the
unlimited employment of black troops. Their superiority lies simply in the fact that they know the
country, while white troops do not, and, moreover, that they have peculiarities of temperament,
position, and motive which belong to them alone. Instead of leaving their homes and families to fight
they are fighting for their homes and families, and they show the resolution and sagacity which a
personal purpose gives. It would have been madness to attempt, with the bravest white troops what I
have successfully accomplished with the black ones. Everything, even to the piloting of the ... Show

The Proclamation also provided the acceptance of black men into the Union Army and Navy, thereby
letting those who were liberated to become liberators. Almost
200,000 black soldiers and sailors had fought for the Union and their freedom by the end of the war.
From the beginning of the Civil War, the slaves had acted to secure their own freedom.
The Emancipation Proclamation made the blacks realize that the war for the Union must become a
war for freedom. This added a moral force to the Union cause that strengthened the Union, both
militarily and politically. This document was a milestone on the road to slavery s final destruction.
When we see the words or read about the Colored Troops of the United States, we have to ask
ourselves: Who were these people? Where did they come from? What role did these people play in
reshaping the socio political and military structures of the United States of America? The start of the
Civil War began in South Carolina on April 12, 1861, at a place called
Fort Sumter, but even before tha,t there were seven states in the deep South that had seceded from the
Union. A convention was held in Montgomery, Alabama, where Jefferson Davis was elected and a
Constitution was written for the Confederate states of America. Soon four more states seceded,
Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina. The slave states that remained loyal to the Union

Data Breach Research Papaer
Secure or Breached?
As technology is becoming more prevalent the manner in which we store information is changing.
Gone are the days of information being stored into file cabinets. Instead information is stored in
databases, a system of hard drives that stores information electronically normally accessible remotely.
With this comes a rise in hackers and correspondingly a rise in security breaches, where hackers have
access to sensitive information. Vulnerabilities are the root of all hacks. For businesses, they result in a
decline in reliability. If an individual or a group wants to breach information, they will almost always
find a way. With the increasing need for information databases, businesses have to weigh the risks of
hacks. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identify theft is protected under the Identity Theft and Assumption Deterrence Act but only discusses
punishment of the violator. This is another law that does not clearly prohibit cybercrime. It
criminalizes identity theft and allows courts to assess the losses suffered by individual consumers
which does not specify the form in which identity theft must take place. Laws prohibiting and
punishing cybercrimes are less effective when the root of the problem cannot be tracked. For as
controversial as the topic is, there may not be laws in effect fully prohibiting cybercrimes to a full
extent.
Motives behind the hack Reasons behind a data breach are just as varied as the people who carry them
out. Most hackers fall in one of three categories, white hat, black hat, and grey hat hackers. The white
hat hacker is a person who hacks legally; no information is stolen or vulnerabilities exploited. Instead,
white hat hackers are hired by companies to try and breach the security in place, they then inform said
company of how they managed to bypass security masseurs in order to help patch exploits in the
security. Then there is the black hat hackers, these hackers hack without permission for self gain or for
the challenge. They normally steal information like credit card numbers, social security numbers and
addresses. Other times the will sell the nature of the exploit on the black market to the highest bidder.
However, financial gain is not the only motivation

Swastika Lord Of The Flies Comparison Essay
World War II was the most disasters war that has ever happened, there were over 80 million fatalities.
Many books have connected to World War II but, William Golding s book Lord of the Flies has an
immense amount of similarities to World War II. For example when Golding incorporated the way the
littluns are in physical and mental depression because of the way Jack treats them. The characters in
the novel represent various political leaders in World War II, and in the book, which is the pig s head

It must not become a servant of the masses but their master! . In the beginning it started as a gang of
unemployed soldiers in 1919, later it officially became the largest elected party in Germany in 1933
and was also to blame for over five million Jewish deaths. Hitler talked a lot about purifying the
nation of Germany for example when he said, What we must fight for is to safeguard the existence and
reproduction of our race and our people, the sustenance of our children and the purity of our blood, the
freedom and independence of the fatherland. . Hitler initiated World War II by invading Poland in
1939, the Polish were defeated within two weeks of fighting the large and fierce army of Nazi
Germany. World War II was fought mainly against Nazi Germany and the United States of America, as
soon as we found out about the concentration camps the struggles were mainly focused on helping the
Jews and shutting down as many of these camps as the US could. All of these instances show that
Hitler was a terrible leader who´s master plan wasn t to help his country thrive but was to kill all of the
Jews in Germany to safeguard the existence of ¨his master

Lantana and Snow Falling on Cedars
Lantana and Snow Falling on Cedars present a variety of relationships that explore the restrictions of
characters in a culturally limiting society, and ones with intertwining emotions and secrets that contain
a darker reality. The crucial type of relationship in both texts is the forbidden connections that are
abundant with unrealistic expectations, developed through characterisation as the plot progresses. The
texts also display the relationships that have become dysfunctional after significant events, detailing
the long term effects on the characters through dialogue. The two texts provide elaborate explanations
on these relationships, while exploring the reactions of the characters and their position in the
relationship.
Both texts incorporate characterisation to portray the character s position in the relationship and the
outcome of their association. The unrealistic love between a young Ishmael and Hatsue, as well as the
temporary connection between Jane and Leon represent the forbidden relationships in the novel and
film. Ishmael is portrayed as a character with the belief that love conquers all, which is depicted
through his declaration that If we love each other we re safe from it all. Love is the biggest thing there
is. , similar to Jane s representation as a naïve character searching for emotion with Leon, through her
attempts to approach him with more than physical intentions. Although they each become physically
engaged, it is Ishmael and Jane who become

The Battle Of The Uss Maine
On April 19th, 1898, the United States declared war on Spain. Over the next three months the United
States, along with Cuban Rebels waged war against the Spanish forces in hopes of returning the
Cuban lands back to its people. President McKinley who was pressured into war by yellow press, sent
American forces into battle which ultimately led to the birth of a western hemispheric super power,
the United States. The sinking of the USS Maine, the use of yellow press journalism, and the national
uproar and motivation is what drove the Americans to victory. Valeriano Weyler, the Spanish General
in Cuba, started a campaign called Subjugation or Death. This bloody campaign was Spain s attempt
to force the local people into slavery. Filled with concentration camps, burning villages and murdering
Cubans, this campaign took the lives of over 200,000 Cuban people. Since Spain was aware that the
US had sympathy towards the Cuban rebels this endangered the lives of American citizens living
there. The USS Maine was built in 1888 and was seen as advanced American battleship modeled after
advanced European designs. President McKinley while keeping a close eye on the events unfolding in
his neighboring country, sent the USS Maine to the island of Key West, only 90 miles from Havana,
Cuba. The USS Maine was sent in anticipation of an evacuation of American s from Cuba should
things get worse. In January of 1898 rioting broke out in Cuba which led to the dispatch of the USS
Maine. Spain

Michael Moore Capitalism Synopsis
Michael Moore is the writer and director of the highly relevant documentary film, Capitalism: A Love
Story. To me, the most interesting chapter of the film is Dead Peasants. Moore talked about capitalism
is a system of giving and taking, mostly taking . In my opinion, it sounds true for me. Moore
illustrated Irma Johnson s husband Dan ironic case. Who recently died of cancer, leaving behind Irma
and their two sons. They filmed the woman cried and sadly talked about her husband. Her husband
worked in middle management at Amegy Bank in Houston, Texas. Amegy had taken out a secret life
insurance policy on Dan s life. The bank generously named itself as the beneficiary in the event of
Dan s death. Dan s death made them $1.5 million richer by the insurance company accidentally
informed Irma that Amegy Bank had received a check for $1.5 million just weeks after Dan died. Irma
Johnson cried in pain that she didn t know anything and they never told her. Why the company try to
profit from employee s death?. How are these companies able to get away with this?. Moore might be
answer those kinds of question in sarcastic way : I guess that s the point of capitalism. It allows you to
get away with anything, like making a profit off the death of an employee.
These kind of corporate insurance policies on employees, with the normal use of life insurance, ...

America is not great like everyone thinks, not all thing is perfect, I guess. In the film, the best well
known case is Walmart, Moore mentioned about Walmart took out over 350,000 life insurance policies
on rank and file associates. Especially, LaDonna s death earned one of the richest corporations in the
world an extra $81,000 and Walmart didn t offer a penny to help to cover her medical bills and funeral
which over $100,000. We call that case as Dead Peasant Insurance. It is just more about the want of

Strict Liability
Strict Liability
The question this week deals with product liability, on the ground of strict liability. Bob was shopping
at Carl s Hardware store. One of Carl s employee s named Dan was using a nail gun and it fired
without warning. A nail struck Bob in the leg. After checking the nail gun Carl discovers the
manufacture, Eagle Tools, Inc., improperly assembled the tool. Bob files a suit against Eagle Tools,
Inc, for product liability, on the ground of strict liability. The elements for action based on strict
liability will be covered, who the court will like rule in favor of, and why in the following paragraphs.

The six elements discussed above will de reviewed. First, it seems the product was defective with the
information provided. Second, the defendant is engaged in the business of selling that product. Eagle
Tools, Inc. is the manufacturer. Third, the product seems unreasonably dangerous in its defective state.
The product was dangerous beyond expectation. It fired without the trigger being activated. Fourth,
Bob did incur physical harm. Fifth, was the defective condition the proximate cause of harm? This is
where an argument can be made with the information provided. For Bob he believes this to be true, so
he feels this is met. Sixth, with the information provided it must be assumed the product was not
substantially changed from the time the product was sold to the time the injury sustained. With all the
information provided I feel Bob meets the requirements to file a suit. The last two questions need to be
covered. Who will the court rule in favor of and why? Up to this point it was been covered why Bob
can bring suit against Eagle Tool, Inc. Let s not forget Eagle Tool, Inc has the opportunity to provide a
defense to the claim. With the information provided they have no defense under Assumption of risk,
Product misuse, nor comparative negligence. It was covered above in the fifth element that there is
room to argue the defective condition was the proximate cause of harm. Dan, Carl s employee was
