The NSAP was launched on August 15, 1995 . Vision of the program: A society, where all persons are free from undeserved want and deprivation, and lead a dignified life . INTRODUCTION NSAP Mission of the program: To reach out to and provide social security to vulnerable sections of society, particularly those living below the poverty line(BPL). The National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) is a welfare programme being administered by the Ministry of Rural Development The National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) is being implemented in rural areas as well as urban areas . INTRODUCTION NSAP NSAP represents a significant step towards the fulfilment of the Directive Principles in Article 41 and 42 of the Constitution. NATIONAL SOCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME (NSAP) 4 The NSAP provides opportunities for linking the social assistance package to schemes for poverty alleviation and the provision of basic needs. Specifically, old age pensions can be linked to medical care and other benefits for the old and the poor. For getting benefits under NSAP the applicant must belong to a Below Poverty Line (BPL) family according to the criteria prescribed by the Govt. of India.

NATIONAL SOCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME (NSAP) IGNWPS Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme ₹ 500 Per month For beneficiaries aged more than 80. ₹ 2 00 Per month All BPL widow beneficiaries aged 4 0 – 59 year. 40 Years Minimum eligible age 9 Coverage 3.4 million (2010-11)

NATIONAL SOCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME (NSAP) NFBS National Family Benefit Scheme B eneficiary Amount is granted to the eldest surviving head of the household .. ₹ 5000 /10000 one-time assistance to a household in the event of death of breadwinner. 18 -60 Years Breadwinner age 11 Coverage 0.3 million (2010-11)
NATIONAL SOCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME (NSAP) ANNAPURNA Annapurna Scheme B eneficiary Senior citizens who have remained uncovered under (IGNOAPS) Benefit Beneficiaries are entitled to 10kg of food grains per month free of cost.. 60 Years Minimum eligible age 12 Coverage 1 million (2010-11)
The NSAP Schemes are mainly implemented by the Social Welfare Departments in the States. IMPLEMENTATION NSAP NATIONAL SOCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME (NSAP) 13 In the States of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Goa, Meghalaya and West Bengal, The NSAP Schemes are implemented by Rural Development Department In Orissa and Puducherry, The NSAP Schemes are implemented by the Department of Women & Child Development In Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, The NSAP Schemes are implemented by the Revenue Department In Jharkhand . The NSAP Schemes are implemented by the Department of Labour Employment & Training

CASE STUDY Andhra Pradesh NATIONAL SOCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME (NSAP) 16 Andhra Pradesh is one of the more highly populated states in India mainly due to the development and its location near the sea coast. The state shares its borders with states like Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Karnataka. Andhra Pradesh has been one of the oldest states in the country and finds mentions in many ancient works of literature. The state has a population of about 84 million according to the Andhra Pradesh Census 2011. NSAP beneficiaries has a population of about 1.4 million according to Ministry of rural development Gov. of India
