DEFINITION It is a social welfare program which seeks to promote the welfare of women by giving special attention to the prevention , eradication in any form , as well as the promotion of skills of employment and self-actualization.

CONTINUED.... Women empowerment refers to the creation of an environment for women where they can make decisions of their own for their personal benefits as well as for society.

WOMEN WELFARE PROGRAMMES

INTEGRATED CHILD DEVELOPMENT SERVICES SCHEME (ICDS) Launched on 2 nd October ,1975,in the ministry of social and women's welfare. Today ICDS scheme represents on of the world’s largest and most unique programmes for mother and early childhood development

OBJECTIVES To improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age group of 0-6years and pregnant and lactating mother. To lay the foundation for proper physiological , physical and social development of the child .

CONTINUED...... To reduce the incidence of mortality , malnutrition etc. To enhance the capability of the mother to look after the health and nutritional needs of the child through proper health and nutrition education.

DWCRA Initiated as a sub-scheme of IRDP(integrated rural development programme) in September 1982. To provide income generating activities for women and provide an organizational support in terms of receiving system for the assisted women so that they could become effective recipients of goods and services available in that area.

CONTINUED.... The rationale behind the programme was that women’s income is known to have positive correlation with the nutritional and educational status of the family.

MAHILA SAMRIDHI YOJANA Started on 2 nd October,1993. OBJECTIVE - To provide economic security to rural women and to encourage the saving habit among them. Rural women of 18 years and above are assisted to open their saving account in the post office in their area.

RASHTRIYA MAHILA KOSH Was set up in March1993 . OBJECTIVE- To assist women below poverty line in undertaking income generating activities t hrough provision of package of financial and other services, and encourage promotion of women SHGs(Self help groups) Provides credit for facilitating production and economic activities.

SWADHAR GREH AIM – To provide temporary accommodation, maintenance and rehabilitative services to women and girls rendered homeless due to crime , voilence , mental stress. LAUNCHED: 2002 OBJECTIVES : To cater to the primary need of shelter , food , clothing , medical treatment and care of the women in distress and who are without any social and economical support. To enable them to start their life as fresh with dignity and conviction.

JANANI SURAKSHA YOJANA From 12-April-2005 . 100% centrally sponsored scheme Seeks to focus on providing benefits to the pregnant women of ‘below poverty line’ families and to encourage anti-natal care, institutional deliveries and post-partum care. Women aged 19 years and above, belonging to BPL families, are eligible for benefit under this scheme.

MAHILA E-HAAT

MAHILA E-HAAT Launched in 7 March 2016. AIM - T o strengthen financial inclusion of women entrepreneurs( An   entrepreneur  is an individual who creates a new business, bearing most of the risks and enjoying most of the rewards )in the economy by providing continuous support to their creativity.

CONTINUED.... OBJECTIVES – Mahila e- haat is an initiative for meeting needs of women. To providing web-based marketing platform to women to directly sell their products.

BETI BACHAO, BETI PADHAO LAUNCHED ON : 22 January 2015 AIM - To generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services meant for girls. OBJECTIVES – To prevent sex-selective abortion To ensure survival and protection of a girl child. To ensure education of the girl child.

PRADHAN MANTRI UJJWALAN YOJANA Launched on1-May-2016. It aims at providing clean-cooking fuel to poor households, who are otherwise vulnerable to various health hazards associated with Indoor air pollution. Government had set target to provide deposit free LPG connections under PMUY to 5 crore BPL.
