Introduction Third mineral drug of Sadharana rasa. Chemically : Ammonium Chloride Formula: NH 4 Cl Inorganooc white crystalline salt highly soluble in water. Solution mildely acidic. Naturally ocuring form known as Sal ammoniac The mineral I commonly formed on burning coal dumps, due to condensation of coal drived gases, volcanic vents, etc Artificially prepared by the reaction of Hydrochloric acid and ammonia.

Contemporary medical uses Expectorant in cough medicine.(due to its irritative action in bronchial mucosa producing excess respiratory tract fluid which is presumably easy to cough up. Ammonium salts irritate gastric mucosa and induce nausea and vomiting. As systemic acidifying agent in metabolic alkalosis. In Oral acid loading test to diagnose distal renal tubular acidosis. To maintain acid pH of Urine.

Introduction 5 th mineral drug of Sadharana rasa. Identified as Ambergris / Grey Amber. Solid, waxy, Flamable substance of dull grey or blackish colour produced in the digestive system of Sperm Whales. Freshly produced ambergris has a marine fecal odour but as it aged it acquires sweet earthy scent simillar tho that of rubbing alcohol without the vaporous chemical astringency. Used as fixative in Perfumery.

Source Occures as the biliary secretion of Physeter macrocephalus and can be found floating on the sea or in sand near the coast. It is also sometimes found in the abdomen of whale. Found in lumps of various shapes and sizes 15 -50 kg. Initially the fatty precursor of Ambergris is white in colour as years pass it undergo photo degradation and oxidation in ocean that gradually hardens developing a dark grey or black colour a crusty and waxy texture and peculiar odour . Specific gravity – 0.780 to 0.926 Melt at 62 degree celsius Vapourizes to white vapours at 100 degree celsius Soluble in ether

Classical reference Rasopanishat mentions Agnijara as having Parapara shakti and of 4 colours of which blood red coloured is the best. No reference in Brihat trayi . Can be traced from Rasarnava – used for Abhraka dravana Considered as the jarayu of sea creature called Agninakra (R.R.S).

Occurrence Found in Atlantic Ocean in the coasts of Brazil , Madagascar. The East Indies, The Malsives , China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, The Moluccas Islands.
