Nelson Mandela is considered the most significant black
leader who stood against racism and apartheid in South
Africa, while many in the world were silent. He is claimed
to have dreamt of a democratic and free society in which
people live together in harmony with equal opportunities.
His words, ''the struggle is my life'', are thought to give a
glimpse of the determination he fought with against
apartheid and racism in South Africa, and it is known that
the goal he had set almost four decades back.

Likewise, Nelson Mandela is regarded as one of the
twentieth century’s greatest political figures. Incarcerated
in prison for over 20 years due to his role in fighting
apartheid. It is said that Nelson Mandela came to
symbolise the injustice of apartheid and his fate became a
rallying cry for those committed to its overthrow. In the early 1990, with great
magnanimity and force of character, Mandela was able to help negotiate an end to the
system of apartheid leading to his election as president of a free and democratic society in
1994.

Despites several roadblock and barriers in his path, Mandela succeeded in bringing quality
and justice to his people for which he was awarded the honorary Nobel Peace Prize in
1993. Although he retired from public life in 1999, Nelson Mandela retains a great popular
appeal across the globe.

Nelson Mandela was born in the Transkei on the 18 July 1918. And It is known that he
currently resides in his birth place - Qunu, Transkei.
