Neon Abbey Boguski

Symbol

Examples of Neon: Lighting fluorescent lights, glow lamps, signs, lava lamps We know this because lights are filled with neon gas. They might contain other gases as well. The gas contained in the sign tube determines the color of light given off. The color given off by the neon is a reddish orange color. The light is often used in advertising because it is so bright and very visually noticeable.

Other information Neon means “new one” comes from a Greek word Is a Nobel gas and often doesn't ’ t react with other elements Chemical element Was discovered by a British Chemists Sir William Ramsay and Morris W Very expensive Appears bright reddish orange when electricity is passed through it Is used in vacuums Neons melting point is -433.46 °F (-258.59 °C) Neons boiling point is -410.94 °F (-246.08 °C).

Atomic Number The atomic number of neon is 10 The atomic number of an element is the number of protons in an atom Atomic number = number of protons The number of protons in an element never changes

Atomic Mass The average atomic mass of neon is 20.1797 or rounded 20.180 The mass number of an atom us the number of protons plus the number of neutrons Mass number = protons plus neutrons
