Index Introduction Definition Causes Risk factor Pathophysiology Complications Diagnostic evaluation Management Nursing management

Introduction Nephrons means – kidney Syndrome means – collections of symptoms Nephrotic syndrome is a kidney disorder that causes your body to pass too much protein in your urine. Nephrotic syndrome is usually caused by damage to the clusters of small blood vessels in your kidneys that filter waste and excess water from your blood

Cont.....

Definition Collection of symptoms occurs due to leakage of plasma protein in urine due to increase capillary permiability Nephrotic syndrome is a primary glomerular disease characterized by proteinuria , hypoproteinemic edema and hypercholesterolemia hypoalbuminemia , hyperlipidemia . Because of gross proteinuria serum albumin is low ( <2.5 g/dl).

Causes ( etiology ) & Risk factor Glomerulonephritis Diabetic nephropathy Amyloidosis of kidney: Amyloid protein accumulation Systemic lupus erythematosus- damage kidney. . focal Segmental glomerulosclerosis-scarringof glomeruli due genetics defect and some medication . Membranous nephropathy - Thickening of membranes due todeposit made by Immune system- malaria, cancer, lupus . infection HIV, hepatitis B, malaria.

Pathophysiology (pathology)

Clinical manifestations 1.Edema (Swelling)
periorbital edema , Pitting edema , ankle edema ,
2. Oligouria . 3. weight gain
4. Hematuria . 5. Hypertension
6. Dyspnea 7 Pleural effusion
8. Ascites
9.Thrombophilia (clot formation)
loss of anticoagulant & synthesis of prcoagulant 10. foamy appearance of urine
11. Anaemia,
12.Anorexia, fatigue, diarrhea ,
13. Lipiduria - Increase filtration

Diagnostic evaluation 1. History
2 Physical Examination
3. Urine analysis – Protein & creatinine
4. Blood analysis – serum protein,
Albumin: globulin ratio
5.Kidney function test (KFT)
5. Kidney biopsy

Medical management

Nursing management Care during hospitalization Administer the prescribed medicine use to 5 rules Maintain fluid and electrolyte imbalance Prevention of infection To promote health Provide emotional support Discharge planning and home care teaching
