THE NERVOUS SYSTEM THE NERVE CELL (NEURONS)
THE NERVE CELL
MOTIVATION DRILL/GAME: PASS THE MESSAGE THE CLASS WILL FORM A 2 GROUP, EACH GROUP HAS 6 MEMBERS. THE FIRST MEMBER WILL RECEIVE THE MESSAGE AND PASS IT TO THE OTHER MEMBERS THROUGH WHISPERING UNTIL IT REACH THE LAST MEMBER. THE LAST MEMBER WILL WRITE THE MESSAGE TO THE BOARD. THE GROUP WITH THE FASTEST TIME WILL WIN THE GAME AND WILL BE AWARDED.
NERVE CELL - IT IS THE BASIC UNIT OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM - ALSO KNOWN AS “NEURONS” - THERE ARE 12-14 BILLIONS OF NEURONS OR NERVE CELL IN ONE PART OF THE BRAIN ALONE. A NEURON HAS A CELL BODY CONTAINING THE NUCLEUS. DENDRITES AXONS CELL BODY
DENDRITES IT CARRIES IMPULSES OR SIGNALS TOWARDS THE CELL BODY AXONS CARRY IMPULSES AWAY FROM THE CELL BODY CELL BODY
Neurons are cells with the special ability to carry signal or impulses. The signal or impulse can be thought, emotions, learning, and many other body functions are carried by nerve impulse in the neurons. A nerve impulse cannot travel or jump from one neuron to another. When a nerve impulse comes to the end of the axon, it produces the chemical called the neurotransmitter. The neurotransmitter is a chemical that crosses the space between the neurons (Synapse) and stimulates the nerve impulse to start in the next dendrites.
-The nervous system is assisted by five sense organs eyes , nose, ears, tongue, and skin. -These sense organs are constantly receiving information from the environment and sending messages to the brain. These senses aid in the survival of human beings. - A human must be able to respond to a stimulus in order to survive. STIMULUS - is any factor that may trigger a nerve impulse. RESPONSE - is a reaction to the stimulus.
Quiz. IDENTIFY THE FOLLOWING It is a factor that triggers nerve impulse The reaction to a stimulus is ________. The gap or space between neurons are called ______. It carries impulses TOWARDS the cell body. It carries impulses AWAY from the cell body. True or False 6. Nerve Cell is the basic unit of Nervous System. 7. Human can survive without reacting to a stimulus.
8. _______________ 9. ___________________ 10. _________________ LABEL THE PARTS OF A NERVE CELL
ASSIGNMENT: Search for different hormones in our body and give their function. EXAMPLE: Testosterone- Increase the muscle mass in males , development of the adam’s apple and growth hair like beard
