The first fire station (Central Fire Brigade ) was established in 1914 by he British regime. In early days the station used to provide fire-fighting services to small towns, commercial areas and the port. This small fire station was upgraded Gradual1y. Since central Fire Station was located right in the heart of the city it was converted into Fire Head Quarters immediately. Due to rapid growth in the population and expansion of industries in city area, 30 X Fire Stations have been established in different areas / localities of Karachi City, which are providing the fire and rescue services to the citizens of metropolis and are prepared to face any natural disaster or mishap such as Rain Emergency, Cyclone, Earthquake, Storm, all types of Fire, collapse of high rise buildings and major road accident. Apart from the above mentioned services , each Fire Station also providing backup and reinforcement to all other Fire stations whenever required not only within the city limit but even beyond its jurisdiction / area limit . Achievements/Efficiency In last 02 years number of Fire Station has been increased from 22 to 30 . Fire Prevention is being enforced under the Council Resolution issued on 30 August 2021. Rain Emergency Plan – 20 22 has been prepared to meet the moon soon challenges. Improvised methodology introduced to meet the challenges of shortage of water. Fire Training Classes and demonstration are being arranged on request. 52 New Fire tenders received under PM Karachi package. A PC-1 of Rs. 118 millions a pproved under ADP- Program by the Administrator KMC. A proposal to recruit 3 60 Fire Personnel under approval of Secretary Local Government. A scheme of establishment Fire Training Schools at USAR submitted to World Bank. One Snorkle and one fire tender gifted by Govt. Of Japan in 2016. One Snorkel and 03 fire tenders provided by Govt. Of Sindh in 2018. 4 2 lifeguards posted at Emergency Respos Centre Hwaksbay . Last week, 03 bowsers of 42000 litres water capacity and 02 snorkles repaired. 08 Fire station s established in various Industerial zones in Karachi. 10 newly received fire tenders provided to various stakeholders.

Number of Fire Station need to be increased upto 60 in next 05 years. Provision of fire hydrant system in all industerial & commercial zones. Establishment of fire training school at USAR. Appointment on the deceased q uota for the motivation of fire staff. Recuirement of staff for new fire stations and fire tenders. No fire fitness certificate issued by any other KMC fire Service for effective implementation of recently issued Council Resolution. Only licensed holder from KMC fire authority allow fire protection services. All other fire services and stakeholders need to follow British standards of Fire protection systems. MOU for timely and smooth coordination of Various fire services in the city. Key Recommendations

It is a crucial need of time to integrate firefighting preparedness measures into long-term social , economic and urban development policies to meet modern challenges like other Cosmopolitan cities in the world. Conclusion
