Introduction New York City is the biggest  city in the United States. Over 8 million people live there . It’s the center of media, art , fashion , technology, education and entertainment. NYC consists of 4 parts: the Bronx , Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island . There are many famous places : Times Square , Broadway, Wall Street, Chinatown, Central Park , The Statue of Liberty.

History of NYC A long time ago, the territory of NYC was the home of an Indian tribe called Lenape . 1625 – the Dutch built a small town called New Amsterdam. Their boss bought the island of Manhattan for 60 guilders ( about $1000). 1664 – the English conquered the city.

18th Century NYC was very important under British rule . During the  War of Independence , the city was a British military base . 1776 – The Great Fire of New York. 1778 – NYC was the capital of the USA.

19th Century Many people from other countries came to live in NYC. 1857 – Central Park was founded . Brooklyn Bridge was built in 1883.

20th Century 1904 – the opening of the subway. First skyscrapers appeared . 1950 - UN Headquarters were built . NYC became the biggest city in the world .

Famous Places Times Square is a famous commercial intersection , at the junction of Broadway and 7th Avenue . There are 39 millions visitors every year .

Famous Places Broadway is a prominent avenue in New York City, United States . It is famous for a theater located there .

Famous Places The Statue of Liberty is a famous monument and the symbol of NYC. It was a gift from the French people . The statue is located at Liberty Island in New York Harbor, and it welcomes visitors, immigrants, and returning Americans traveling by ship.

Famous Places Wall Street is a financial district of NYC. There is a famous New York Stock Exchange.

Famous Places Central Park is the biggest park in NYC. It is located in the heart of Manhattan. It has got 341 ha. There is also a zoo there .

Famous Places Chinatown is located in Manhattan, NYC. It is a district where many Chinese people who came to the USA live. You can buy many Chinese traditional things there .

21th Century O n September 11, 2001, hijackers linked to the jihadist organization Al-Qaeda  crashed two airplanes into each of the World Trade Center towers. 2,996 people died during the attack . More than 6,000 people were injured .
