2. Conducted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, coordinated by the International Institute for Population Sciences(IIPS). Stages : 1. Planning of the project 2. Development, pretesting,finalization and translation of the survey instrument. 3. Sample design, selection of primary sampling units. 4. Recruitment of project staff. 5. Procurement and distribution of supplies and equipment

3. 6.Training of personnel for the survey. 7. Prepare fieldwork implementation protocol. 8. Preparation of protocols for planning, monitoring, and implementation of the survey. 9. Development of a tabulation plan for national and state reports. 10. Production of data sets and tables. 11. Dissemination of survey results. 12. Release of publications and data sets for public use through websites.

4. Planning : by streaming committee under chairmanship of secretary of health and family welfare,project management committee,and financial management committee. Nodal agency,IIPS is responsible for finalizing questionnaires. Questionnaires include household questions, and various manuals are prepared for field protocols. NFHS-5 includes some new topics, such as preschool education, disability, access to a toilet facility, death registration, bathing practices during menstruation, and methods and reasons for abortion.

5. . The scope of clinical, anthropometric,and biochemical testing (CAB) has also been expanded to include measurement of waist and hip circumferences, and the age range for the measurement of blood pressure and blood glucose has been expanded.

6. CAPI in NFHS (Computer Assisted Personal Interview) Started from NFHS 4(2015-16) Provides results in real time and is easily exportable to Excel,SPSS,CSV,STATA fill formats. Extensive training is provided including troubleshooting. CAPI program has an inbuilt feature to select appropriate language. Control and management of fieldwork across country is arranged from central office. Inbuilt algorithm of CAPI handles skip pattern, filters.and eligibility of questions and sections.

7. Save incomplete questionnaire to get completed later (inbuilt capacity). Use of sync cloud technology improves data synchronization. Helps in generating field check ,tables on key indicators,on daily basis. NFHS assigns a unique code to each investigators within a state,which helps in tracking the progress and performance,of investigator,after individual level feedback is provided.
