The NFL is in a great position in terms of how
much revenue they’re generating and the variety
of ways they’re generating it. They also have
somethings that are considered negative to the
league, but they have the opportunity to turn
those negatives into positives, while doing much
more to help their league grow.

Strengths
The NFL competes with multiple of other
leagues during their season. The beginning of
the NFL season, MLB is still in season, and a few
weeks into the NFL season the NBA season
starts and is on for the rest of the NFL season.
With that being said, the NFL has been able to
lead both of those leagues in viewership and
ratings. The most viewed regular season games
during the 2023-24 season for each of the three
leagues, the NFL averaged 41.7 million viewers,
the NBA averaged 5.01 million viewers, and the
MLB averaged 3.1 million viewers. As far the the
championship games for those leagues during
that season, the Super Bowl (NFL) averaged
123.4 million viewers, the NBA Finals averaged
11.64 viewers, and the World Series (MLB)
averaged 9.1 million viewers.
The NFL has multiple of big-name sponsors.
Some of their sponsors are Bud Light, Verizon,
Visa, EA Sports, Sony, Nationwide, Toyota,
Pepsi, and many more. Those sponsors pay the
NFL for exposure to their brands.
Weaknesses
Just like every sports league the NFL heavily
relies on their star players to help bring more
attention to their league. But since the NFL is a
high contact sport, their players suffer injuries
very often. Depending on how important that
player is their injury can negatively impact their
team’s season and also the NFL as a whole.
The NFL is a business, and the players of the
league are the main reason why the NFL
generates the money that they do, so the
players deserve to get paid what they’re worth.
Sometimes players and the team that they’re
on can have contract disputes which causes the
player to sit out until they’re paid.
Opportunities
The NFL’s audience are mostly fans located in
the United States. A few games throughout the
NFL season, the NFL has a few international
games where teams go to different countries to
play a game, which is to help the NFL’s audience
become more global.
The NFL has stadiums that have grass, and
some have turf. Over time players have
complained about playing on turf due to the
chances of them suffering an injury increases
while playing on turf. A study in 2018 analyzed
4,801 NFL foot and leg injuries during the 2012-
2016 regular season games and found that
there were 16% more injuries per play on turf
than on grass. It mentioned that if all of those
games had been played on grass, there would
have been 319 fewer foot and leg injuries
during that time frame.
Threats
The NFL season starts during the first week of
September and concludes in February with the
Super Bowl. The NBA season starts late October
and last goes on past the Super Bowl, so the
majority of the NFL season aligns with the NBA
season.
When the NFL season starts the MLB regular
season is coming to an end and the playoffs
would be starting. That means the NFL would
be on the same time as the MLB’s playoffs.
