About This Presentation

Guinea worm disease, also called dracunculiasis or dracontiasis, infection in humans caused by a parasite known as the guinea worm (Dracunculus medinensis).
This disease needs early diagnosis, treatment and proper prevention.
preventative activity helps to control the disease.

Started in 1984
It was run with the technical assistance of WHO
Now it is eradicated from 1996
In 2000 declared as
Dranculiasiseradicated India.

DranculosisorGuineawormdiseasecausedby
nematode(onetypeofroundworm)parasite
dranculusmedinesis.
Itistheadultguineawormlengthwas60-100cm.

Infection spread through skin and lower limbs
Causing swelling, ulceration and discomfort.

within24hoursofwormemergence,
Preventingcontaminationofdrinking-waterbypreventing
infectedpeopleandinfectedanimals(dogsandcats)with
emergingwormsfromwadingintowater;

Ensuringwideraccesstoimproveddrinking-water
suppliestopreventinfection
Filteringwaterfrom
openwaterbodiesbeforedrinking;
Implementingvectorcontrolbyusingthelarvicide
Promotinghealtheducationandbehavioralchange.
