1 System “Air Bag", used along with a seat bol helps 10 reduce the risk or sever

le (located in the center rihe sieering wee), a diagnosis sensor uni warning lamp, wiring harness, crash
zone sensor (AWD models) and sprl cable. Information necessary to service the system salely ¡included
inthe RS section of is Service Manual
WARNING:
+ To avoid rendering the SAS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death
in the event of colision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be performed
by an authorized NISSAN dealer
+ Improper maintenance, including incorrect removal and installation of the SRS, can lead to per
‘sonal injury caused by unintentional activation of the system.
+ Do not use electrical test equipment on any clrcu related to the SAS unless instructed to in this
Service Manual. SRS wiring harnesses are covered with yellow insulation either just before the
hamess connactors or for the complete harness, for easy identification.
Precautions for On Board Diagnostic (OBD)
‘System of Engine
The ECM (ECOS control module) has an on-board diagnostic system. 1101 lght up the malfunction indica
vor lamo (MIL) to warn the diver ef a malluncben causing emission detericraton
‘CAUTION:
+ Be sure to turn the ignition switch “OFF”
repair or inspection work. The open/shon ci
‘cause the MIL 10 light up.
・ Be sure to connect and lock the connectors securely after work. A loose (unlocked) connector will
cause the ML to light up due tothe open circuit (Be sure Ihe connector is free from water, grease,
dir, bent terminals, et.)
・ Be sure to route and secure the hamesses properly after work. The Interference of the hamess with
A bracket, ote. may cause the MIL to light up due fo the short circu
・ Be sure to connect rubber lubes properly after work. A misconnected or disconnected rubber tube
may cause the MIL 10 light up due 10 the malfunction of the EGR system or fuel Injection system,
ete
・ Be aure to erase the unnecessary malfunction information (repairs completed) from tho ECM before
returning the vehicle tothe customer,
‚nd disconnect the negative battery terminal before any

PRECAUTIONS AND PREPARATION
Precautions
・ Before connecting or disconnecting the ECM harnoss
connector, tum ignition switch OFF and disconnect nega-
tive battery terminal. Failure to do so may damage the
ECM because battery voltage ls applied to ECM even it
Ignition switch is turned oft.
・ When connecting ECM harness connector, tighten secur
ing bolt until the gap between orange Indicators disap-
pears.
8: 3-5 Nm (0.3 - 0.5 kgm, 26- 43 in-b)
・ Wnen connecting or disconnecting pin connectors into or
from ECM, take care not to damage pin terminals (bend or
break).
Make sure that there aro not any bends or breaks on ECM
pin terminal, when connecting pin connectors.
・ Before replacing ECM, pertorm ECM Terminals and Reter-
tence Value inspection and make sure ECM functions prop"
erly, Refer to EG-85,
・ After performing each TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS, pertorm
"OVERALL FUNCTION CHECK” or "DTC (Diagnostic
‘Trouble Code) CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE”.
‘The DTC should not be displayed in the “DTC CONFIRMA-
TION PROCEDURE” it the repair Is completed. The
“OVERALL FUNCTION CHECK" should be » good result if
the repair is completed.

allow the two tester probes to contact.
