WHAT IS BIO
BATTERY??
Abio-batteryisanenergystoringdevice
thatispoweredbyorganiccompounds.
Bio-Batterygenerateselectricityfrom
renewablefuels(glucose,sucrose,fructose,
etc)providingasustained,on-demand
portablepowersource.

PASSIVESYSTEMTYPE
A system in which reactive substances are
absorbed in to the electrodes through a
process of natural diffusion
ACTIVESYSTEMTYPE
In this type reactive substances are
introduced by force by some means

developmentofabiobatterythatgenerates
electricalenergyfromcarbohydratesusing
enzymesascatalyststhroughtheapplicationof
powergenerationprinciplesusedinliving
organisms.

HOW IT WORKS

•Betweentheanodeandthecathodeliestheelectrolytewhich
containsaseparator.Themainfunctionoftheseparatoristo
keepthecathodeandanodeseparated,toavoidelectricalshort
circuits.Thissystemasawholeallowsforaflowofprotons
(H+)andelectrons(e-)whichultimatelygenerateelectricity.
•Glucoseisbrokendownontheanodesideofthebattery,
producingprotons(H+)andelectrons(e-).Theprotons(H+)are
transferredtothecathodesidethroughtheseparator,whilethe
electrons(e-)aretransportedtothecathodesidethroughthe
mediator,whichtransfersthemtotheexternalcircuit.The
cathodeusestheenzymestodriveanoxygen-reductionreaction
whichultimatelyproduceswaterusingboththeprotons(H+)
andtheelectrons(e-)transferredfromtheanode.These
reactionsattheanodeandcathodegenerateelectricenergyby
creatingproton(H+)andelectron(e-)flowinthecellsystem.
