Nonverbal Communication :- Communication without using words Non-Verbal Communication is communication without the use of Written or Spoken Words. This is a mode of communication under which one person conveys his ideas or thought to the other person with the help of Body Movements , Signs, Postures etc. This is effective and Natural way of Communication. Meaning :
Types of Non-Verbal Communication : Body Language Sign Language Para Language Proxemics Body Language :- The study of message conveyed by Body movements is known as body language or Kinesics. According to Bird Whistle : 70%
It is a form of non-verbal communication by in which message are transmitted through the movement of different parts of body . Our Facial expressions and eyes , gestures , postures and physical appearance reflect true inner condition and send message to others.
2. Sign Language :- When different Signs, Symbols and Sounds are used to exchange message , then it is termed as sign language Sign Language is Two Type : Visual Sign Language :
ii. Audio (Sound) Signals : When different sound signals are used to convey different messages. It is termed as Audio sign language. In old times drumbeats were used to send a message from one village to another village. Audio Signal convey the message very quickly and the helps to take action immediately.
3. Para Language :- The word “Para” means like Para language involves the study of Voice Quality, volume, tone, Pitch, rhythm and the manner of speaking beyond the said words. The tone and voice of the person giving the message tells about his Behaviour, Education and general background. Clear voice indicates the Confidence of the speaker Broken voice is the indication of his lack of preparation. Hesitation, proper stress is also an Important part of Para language. Para language is like a language but it is not a language.
4. Proxemics :- Proxemics term derived from an English word ‘Proximity’ which means Nearness in terms of distance, gap and time. Proxemics is also known as the language of Space and Time. Proxemics Space Language Intimate Personal Social Public Personal touch & 1 feet 1 feet to 4 feet 4 feet to 12 feet 12 feet to 30 feet or eyesight & hearing Family Members Relatives Close Friends Colleagues Public Speech Events Formal & Official Relationship Space Language :-
ii. Time Language :- In time language, people complete the communication process keeping the time limits in mind. iii. Surrounding :- The physical environment of communication such as colour , layout and designing also has their own nonverbal language. We can judge the status and personality of a person with the help of his surroundings. Edward T. Hall , describe four types of informal spaces to know human relations.
Advantage of Non-Verbal Communication : Make effective to oral communication Helpful in expressing emotions and feelings Regulate the flow of conversation Easy and economic way of communication Reliable information
Disadvantages of Non-Verbal Communication : Create confusion Lack of Proof Less reliable Unsuitable for large gathering Dies-interest of the receiver Suitable only for brief messages
