Dance of Sikkim The Sikkim constitute the folk dances and songs which are an ingrained part of Sikkimese culture. This music and folk dances relate to the beauty of the natural surroundings, depicting the harvest season and are performed for good luck and prosperity. Some of the popular music and folk dances are Nepali folk dance “ Maruni ” – It is one of the oldest and popular group dance form of the Nepali community, usually performed by three male dancers and the three female dancers. The dancers are usually accompanied by a clown called “Dhatu waray ”. Sometimes Maruni dances are performed to the accompaniment of the nine instrument orchestra known as “Nau- mati Baja” Nepali folk dance “ Tamamg Selo ”-This group dance of Tamang community is performed to the rhythmic sound of “ Dhamphu ”, a musical instrument and hence are also called “ Dhamphu “ dance. Bhutia folk dance”Tashi Sabdo ”-This age old group dance beautifully and gracefully shows the customs of offering khadas (Scarfs) 0n auspicious occasion. The dancers dance to the melodious tunes dully supported by musical instrument such as Yarkha , Drum, Flute and Yangjey .
Music of Sikkim The main traditional style is the Nepali folk music known as Tamang Selo , This music of the Tamang community is performed to the rhythmic sound of “ Dhamphu ” , a musical instrument. Western-style pop is popular in the region, as well as western-style foreign mus. Panthong Palit is a wind instrument made of bamboo. This folk instrument is found in Sikkim. Majorly used in folk and traditional musical forms ' Denjong Chha -Lu ' is one of the popular national songs of an older Sikkim, Beyul Demojong – a hidden land endowed not only with natural beauty but also with spiritual contentment. Bhutias are devotedly Buddhist and the Denjong Chha -Lu highlights the significance of the secret land of plenty i.e. Sikkim.

Culture of Sikkim Sikkim is a unique blend of different customs, religion and traditions of different communities. Since the ancient times, Sikkim was occupied by three tribes, namely, the Lepchas , the Bhutias and the Nepalese. They continue to form the people’s group and culture in Sikkim even today. From becoming the second Indian soccer player to playing professionally in Europe to wearing the captain’s uniform for the Indian soccer team, he’s done it all. Danny Denzongpa :- was one of Hindi’s favourite moviegoers in the 70s and 80s. Born in Gangtok , Danny was educated in the state capital. Alumni of the Indian Film and Television Institute (FTTI), he soon entered the film industry. Besides being part of a number of Hindi films, Danny is also credited with the popular foreign film “Seven Years in Tibet.” Omi Gurung:- a renowned fashion designer, was born and brought up in Sikkim. Sports of Sikkim Sho is a traditional race game in Tibet. Its name is simply the Tibetan word for "dice". It is traditionally played for money and by men, with two to four players - three being the most common. With four players , the usual variant is to play as two teams of two, with the partners sitting opposite each other Archery is a sport which is very popular amongst the Sikkimese. It is a traditional sport practiced here since time immemorial. It is especially played during the harvest season and can be considered as a ritual practice here. The game needs to be played wearing their traditional attire known as ' kho ’. Tarundeep Rai is an Indian archer born in Namchi Sikkim. He is conferred with the Padma Shri, in 2021 , by the Government of India, for his contribution in Sports. Earlier, in 2018 , he was awarded the Khel Ratan Award.
