NTPC : Vision and Mission

NTPC Group :

NTPC Dadri : About Property of NTPC ltd. Spread in 2465 Acre of land. State : Uttar Pradesh Nearest Airport : Delhi-62 km Nearest Rail head: Ghaziabad- 30 km Also known as NCPS (National Capital Power Station) Provides power to National Capital, Neighbour states and directly to Indian Railways Plant and Township built in between 1988-1990 Has 1500 MW HVDC converter owned and operated by PGCIL. Has 6 Units Has Largest switchyard in country

Capacity Coal based thermal plant = 1820 MW Gas based thermal plant = 817 MW Solar Based plant = 5 MW Total = 2642 MW

Coal To Electricity : Basic

Thermal Power Plant : Layout

Coal Based Thermal Plant Consists Two Stages; Stage I consists 4 units each of 210 MW giving a total of 840 MW. Stage II consists 2 units each of 490 MW giving total of 980 MW. It consumes 13,000 metric tonnes of Coal per day. Coal is sourced from Piparwar mines, Jharkhand. Working Based on Rankine Cycle

This cycle is a model used to predict the performance of steam turbine systems The Rankine cycle closely describes the process by which steam-operated heat engines commonly found in thermal power generation plants generate power. Used in Steam Power plants. Rankine Cycle

TS Diagram Of Rankine Cycle 1-2 : Isentropic compression in pump 2-3 : Constant pressure heat addition in boiler 3-4 : Isentropic expansion in turbine 4-1 : Constant pressure heat rejection in condenser

Water Source : Upper Ganga Canal

Conveyor Belt: Pulverised Coal is carried through conveyor belts powered by conveyor motors. Total Belts: 14 Motor Power: 150 hp Coal Carrying Capacity: 400 tons/hr Material : Vulcanised Rubber Thickness : 3cm

Conveyor Motor: Actual Picture

Running Coveyor Belt : Emergency switches placed at every 25-30 m distance on both sides of belt.

Steam Generator : Boiler Design of boiler plays important role in determining efficiency of plant. Produce thousands of  Tonnes  of steam per hour, and have a fuel-to-steam efficiency as high as 90%. The boiler must be at very high temperatures, Anywhere near 500 degree Celsius and must burn the fuel continuously at a constant rate.

Actual Boiler :

Economise r : The purpose of economiser is to preheat the boiler feed water before It Is Introduced Into the steam drum by recovering heat from the flue gases leaving the boiler Boiler Drum : The function of steam drum is to separate the water from the steam generated in the furnace walls and to reduce the dissolved solid contents of the steam to below the prescribed limit of 1 ppm. Superheater : is a device used to convert saturated steam or wet steam into superheated steam or dry steam. Superheated steam is used in steam turbines for electricity generation Burners: There are 24 total pulverized coal burners arranged on the corners at a height of 18 to 25 Meters and twelve oil burners provided each in between two pulverized fuel burner.

Steam Turbine : Acts As prime mover Two main parts are Cylinder and Rotor. The rotor is a rotating shaft that carries the moving blades on the outer edges of either discs or drums. The blades rotate as the rotor revolves. The rotor of a large steam turbine consists of high, intermediate, and low- pressure section. The high -velocity jet of steam strikes the first set of moving blades. The kinetic energy of the steam changes into mechanical energy, causing the shaft to rotate. The steam then enters the next set of fixed blades and strikes the next row of moving blades. As the steam flows through the turbine, its pressure and temperature decreases, while its volume increases. Now mechanical power is sent to shaft of generator.

Generator Based upon the principle of electromagnetic induction Consists Stationary parts as Stator and Rotating part as Rotor. EMF equation Frequency of Generator.
