NUCLEIC ACIDS JEYMAR PAYUMO

NUCLEIC ACIDS A huge polymer composed of nucleotides NUCLEOTIDES- are the building blocks of nucleic acids.

NUCLEOTIDES A single stranded nucleic acid molecule are held together by covalent bonds. DNA NUCLEOTIDES-Building blocks of DNA RNA NUCLEOTIDES- Building blocks of RNA

2 major types of Nucleic Acids

DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACIDS(DNA) The hereditary molecule Present in the chromosomes of the nucleus Responsible for the transfer of genetic information Deoxy means without oxygen

RIBONUCLEIC ACID(RNA) Primarily concern with the synthesis of protein Not found in the chromosomes but is located elsewhere in the nucleus and even outside of it: in the CYTOPLASM

PYRAMIDINE BASES CYTOSINE(C)- Found in both RNA and DNA THYMINE (T)- In DNA thymine is substituted for Uracil. URACIL (U)- found only in RNA

PURIINE BASES ADENINE (A) AND GUANINE (G)- Both found in DNA and RNA

DNA GUANINE (G)= CYTOSINE(C) CYTOSINE(C) = GUANINE(G) ADENINE (A) =THYMINE(T) THYMINE(T) = ADENINE (A )

R NA GUANINE (G)= CYTOSINE(C) CYTOSINE(C) = GUANINE(G) ADENINE (A) =URACIL (U) URACIL (U)= ADENINE (A )
