Job Summary 1.Provide immediate and effective nursing care to patients attending the Emergency OPD, ensuring timely assessment, stabilization, and referral
when necessary. The nurse plays a critical role in triage, emergency response, and coordination of patient care.
2.Provide safe, effective, and compassionate inpatient care for admitted patients, including assessment, treatment, monitoring, documentation,
and discharge planning, while ensuring adherence to national treatment protocols and patient safety standards.
Responsibility 1. Patient Assessment and Triage
1.1.Perform rapid assessment of patients upon arrival.
1.2.Prioritize care using triage protocols based on severity of condition.
1.3.Record vital signs, medical history, allergies, and presenting complaints.
2. Emergency Nursing Care
2.1.Provide immediate first aid and life-saving interventions (e.g., airway management, bleeding control, CPR).
2.2.Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and oxygen therapy as prescribed.
2.3Prepare and assist in emergency procedures (suturing, wound care, immobilization, etc.).
2.4Monitor patient condition and promptly report deterioration to the physician.
3. Coordination and Referral
3.1Support smooth transfer of critically ill patients to higher-level facilities if required.
3.2.Coordinate with ambulance and referral services.
3.4.Maintain communication with physicians, laboratory, pharmacy, and radiology units.
4. Documentation and Records
4.1.Maintain accurate patient records, nursing notes, and emergency logs.
4.2.Ensure proper documentation of administered medications and procedures.
4.3Report incidents, accidents, and unusual cases to the supervisor.
5. Infection Prevention and Safety
5.1.Follow infection prevention and control protocols.
5.2.Ensure safe handling of sharps, biomedical waste, and body fluids.
6. Patient and Family Support
6.1.Provide emotional support and clear communication to patients and families.
6.2.Educate patients on discharge instructions and follow-up care.
7. Administrative and Team Responsibilities
7.1.Participate in duty rosters, emergency call schedules, and staff meetings.
7.2.Ensure availability of emergency drugs, equipment, and supplies (defibrillator, oxygen, suction, IV sets, etc.).
7.3.Report shortages and equipment malfunctions promptly.
7.4.Support training and mentoring of junior staff and students.
8.Patient Admission and Initial Care
8.1.Receive and register patients admitted to the inpatient unit.
8.2.Conduct admission assessment: vital signs, history, physical examination, and initial nursing/clinical care.
8.3.Admit patients according to the health center’s admission criteria and protocols.
8.4.Ensure patients are oriented to the ward environment, routines, and rules.
9. Patient Care and Monitoring
9.1.Provide routine nursing and clinical care (medication administration, IV fluids, wound care, feeding support, hygiene).
9.2.Monitor patients’ conditions regularly and document vital signs, progress, and any changes.
9.3.Report deterioration or complications to the supervising nurse/health officer/physician immediately.
9.4.Ensure timely laboratory tests, imaging, and other investigations are requested and followed up.
Experiance üPrior experience in inpatient/ward care is highly desirable.
üExperience in emergency response and patient monitoring is an added advantage.
Qualification ØDiploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (Registered Nurse).
ØValid professional license from regulatory authority.
ØTraining/experience in Emergency Nursing / First Aid / Basic Life Support (BLS) / Advanced Life Support (ALS) preferred.
ØStrong clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills.
