DEFINITION
•“A nursing round is one which

and in later practice in which one or more visits to a
hospital patient are scheduled by two or
morenursesto coordinate care, troubleshoot,
respond to patient needs, and share insights.

PURPOSE
•To acquaint nurses with all patients
on the more purposeful care may
be achieved for eachpatient.
•To help nurses to get acquainted
with newpatients.

•To learn about disease, pattern
of care andtreatment.
•To demonstrate the effect of
drugs used in thetreatment.

•Tocarryout demonstration of
therapeutic procedures on / for
thepatients.
•To illustrate skillful nursingcare.

•Theinstructorofthestudent
whoiscaringforthepatient
briefsthenursingcare.
•The staff nurses of the ward are
also allowed to contribute
certain genuine points regarding
patientcare.

•Background information ofthe
patient can be provided away
from thebedside.
•The main focus is made on
nursing care and only important
aspects of the care are
discussed.

•At the end the instructor
concludes the discussion by
giving her opinion, guidance and
relevantinstructions.
•The patient is finally briefed up
on the conclusions reached
followingdiscussion.

•The staff nurse on
duty records all
the instructions
and suggestions
given by the
instructorand a
register (providing
the information)
is maintained in
theward.
