Oak Island The great mystery

The island is located off the coast of Nova Scotia

Overview of the famed island.

Daniel McGinnis discovered a shallow depression in the ground on the island Thus the mystery begins…

Daniel and his friends dug down 30 feet! They were forced to stop and find capable machinery

Daniel McGinnis, John Smith and Anthony Vaughan returned to island with the Onslow Company eight years later to continue

This is the digging site of the money pit.

They discovered different layers in the pit made of wood, coconut fiber, and rock.

While excavating the pit a mysterious slab was found The slab is said to say “forty feet below, two million pounds lie buried “.

Artifacts discovered included an ax, anchor, and other tools. A pair of old scissors were also found

D uring a more modern excavation, a camera was placed in a hole dug near pit.. Human remains, tools, and three large chests were thought to be seen

The team thought they were about to hit pay dirt, until the pit began to flood .

Many others would come to the island in search of the solution to the mystery

More modern attempts at digging

This is a modern picture of the money pit

Today Oak Island is still being researched and there are even television shows about it.

The exploration of the money pit proved to be deadly and several people have died during the dig.

The origin of the money pit is a mystery

Legend says that there could be pirate treasure buried in the pit… Hence the name, “Money pit”

Others believe it to be a natural sink hole…

Whatever lies within this pit may one day be discovered. For now, it remains one of the world’s greatest mysteries.
