Official Standards of Powders Official Standards of Powders. Powders are generally termed as coarse and fine powders. But, it is necessary that they should be defined with some official specifications. Powders are classified based on particle size using standard sieve numbers and their corresponding aperture sizes . There are following official powder grades: Coarse powder (10/44)- All the particles of this powder pass through a sieve no. 10, having the nominal mesh aperture of 1,700 µm but not more than 40% of the powder by weight must pass through the sieve no. 44 , having the nominal mesh aperture of 355um .
Official Standards of Powders Official Standards of Powders. Moderately coarse powder (22/60)- All the particles of this powder pass through a sieve no. 22, having the nominal mesh aperture of 710 µm but not more than 40% of the powder by weight must pass through sieve no. 60, having the nominal mesh aperture of 250 µm. Moderately Fine Powder (44/85): All the particles of this powder pass through a sieve no. 44 , having the nominal mesh aperture of 355 µm but not more than 40% of the powder by weight must pass through sieve no. 85 , having the nominal mesh aperture of 180 µm. Fine Powder (85/120): All the particles of this powder pass through a sieve no. 85, having the nominal mesh aperture of 180 µm but not more than 40% of the powder by weight must pass through sieve no. 120, having the nominal mesh aperture of 125 µm .
Official Standards of Powders Very Fine Powder (120/350 ) - All the particles of this powder pass through a sieve no. 120, having the nominal mesh aperture of 125 µm but not more than 40% of the powder by weight must pass through sieve no. 350 with the nominal mesh aperture of 45 µm. Microfine Powder (350 ) - The powder whose particles not less than 90% by weight must pass through sieve no. 350, having the nominal mesh aperture of 45 µm. Superfine Powder - The powder in which the number of particles is not less than 90% is less than 10 µm in size.
Official Standards of Powders Grade of Powder And Sieve Number Along with Nominal Aperture Size As Per I.P. Powder Grade Sieve for Complete Passing Aperture (µm) Sieve for ≤40 % Passing Aperture (µm) Sieve Number Coarse Sieve No. 10 1700 Sieve No. 44 355 No. 10 / No. 44 Moderately Coarse Sieve No. 22 710 Sieve No. 60 250 No. 22 / No. 60 Moderately Fine Sieve No. 44 355 Sieve No. 85 180 No. 44 / No. 85 Fine Sieve No. 85 180 120 125 No. 85 Very Fine Sieve No. 120 125 350 45 No. 120
