•Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is an Indian multinational oil and gas
company headquartered in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India.
•ONGC was founded on 14 August 1956 by Government of India
•70 percent of India's domestic production of crude oil and around 84 percent of natural gas.
•Commission converted into a statutory body by Act of Parliament in 1959 for planning,
promoting, organizing and implementing of program for the development of Petroleum
resources in India.
•Hydrocarbon India Ltd. (HIL), precursor to ONGC Videsh Ltd., was formed in 1965.
•Oil and Natural Gas Commission becomes Oil and Natural Gas Corporation on 1st Feb.’1994.

HISTORY OF THE COMPANY
Shri Keshav Dev Malviya who laid the foundation of ONGC in the form of Oil
and Gas division, under the Geological Survey of India, in 1955.
Directorate was converted into Commission and christened Oil & Natural Gas
Commission on 14th August 1956.
In 1997 ONGC is declared as one of the “Navratna” and becomes a “Maharatna”
PSU in 2010.
