Operations With Integers

Integer -is a whole number that can be positive , negative , or zero .

Adding Integers If the integers have the SAME signs, ADD the numbers & keep the same sign. Positive + Positive = Positive Negative + Negative = Negative Examples: a. b.

Adding Integers If the integers have the DIFFERENT signs, SUBTRACT the numbers & use the sign of the bigger number. Bigger # is Positive = Positive Bigger Negative = Negative Examples: a. b. -

Adding Integers DIFFERENT SIGNS Examples: a. b. -   SAME SIGNS Examples: a. b.

Add: 1.) 2.) 3.) 4.) 5.)   Let’s Practice!

Subtracting Integers Change the sign of the SUBTRAHEND then, proceed to ADDITION of integers. SAME sign : ADD and keep the same sign DIFFERENT sign : SUBTRACT and use the sign of bigger number Examples: a.

Subtract: 1.) 2.) 3.) 4.) 5.)   Let’s Practice!

Multiplying Integers Multiply the numbers like usual If the integers have the SAME signs, ANSWER will be POSITIVE If the integers have the DIFFERENT signs, ANSWER will be NEGATIVE Examples: a. b. c. d.

Multiply: 1.) 2.) ( 3.) 4.) 5.)   Let’s Practice!

Dividing Integers Divide the numbers like usual If the integers have the SAME signs, ANSWER will be POSITIVE If the integers have the DIFFERENT signs, ANSWER will be NEGATIVE Examples: a. b. c. d.

Divide: 1.) 2.) ( 3.) 4.) 5.)   Let’s Practice!

Perform the indicated operation: 1.) 2.) ( 3.) 4.) 5.) -   Let’s Practice!
