Basics of Circuits and Components
SWhat is a circuit?
SAny system that is formed by interconnecting electronic
components.
SA system that processes electronic data.
SCircuits maybe classified as Analog circuits or digital circuits.
SMixed signal circuit is also possible.SMixed signal circuit is also possible.

SWhat is Component?
SAny discrete electronic device that understands electronic
Signals.
SElectronic Components are generally made up of metals and
semiconductors
SSmaller components may be integrated together to build larger SSmaller components may be integrated together to build larger
components.

Printed Circuit Boards
SPCB is a platform that is used to place and connect all the
components together.
SThe board is made out of a insulator/substrate.
SComponents are placed in the holes of the PCB.
SThe leads of the components are connected using copper SThe leads of the components are connected using copper
tracks.
SPrinted circuit boards are classified into following:
SSingle sided PCB (Components on one side and tracks on
other side)
SDouble sided PCB (Components on one side and tracks on
both sides)

Introduction to PSPICE model
SSPICE: Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit
Emphasis.
SPSPICE: Programmable SPICE
SIt is computer program that help in modeling components
and simulating their functionality.
SA SPICE model is a text-description of a circuit
component used by the SPICE Simulator to
mathematically predict the behavior of that part under
varyingconditions.

Schematic Design
SFirst step for building a electronic circuit/system.
SSchematic is a standard way representation of circuit.
SIt can be understood by any circuit designer.
SIt can be modified as per the requirements.
SSchematic is used by SPICE for circuit simulation.SSchematic is used by SPICE for circuit simulation.
SSame schematic maybe used to design PCB.

PSPICE simulation
SThis can perform :
STransient analysis.
SFrequency analysis.
SSimulation at different temperatures.
12 OrCAD of Cir. Sim. and PCB Design A NISH GOEL
PCB design using OrCAD
SNo requirement for designing PCB separately.
SPCB can be generated from the schematic.
SPlacement of the components is the next step.
SRouting of tracks can be done manually or automatically.
SAll PCB design rules are taken care by the DRC.
SModifications in PCB can be made by changing the schematic
directly.directly.
SThe tool generates a .gerbfile that can be directly fed to the
CNC machine for PCB fabrication.

Complex PCB Generation from Schematic
OrCAD of Cir. Sim. and PCB Design ANISH GOEL14
Testing and Verification
STesting of the circuit is done by applying all the possible
combinations of inputs and verifying the expected
outputs.
SFault during testing can be analyzed by looking at the
schematic directly.
