3. Fraenum
•Muscle attachments which restrict
movement of the lips & cheeks
•Frenula of the mouth include the
frenulum linguae under the tongue, the
frenulum labii superioris inside the upper
lip, the frenulum labii inferioris inside the
lower lip, and the which connect the
cheeks to the gum.

4. Incisive Papilla
•The incisive papilla is a projection on the
palate near the incisors.

5. Sulcus
•A sulcus (pronounced with a hard c) (pl.
sulci) is a depression or fissure in the
surface of an organ.

6. Torus palatinus
•Torus palatinus (pl. palatal tori) is a
bony growth on the palate

7. Foveae Palatina
•Two small foveae which usually give out
mucous secretions
•Helpful for locating the junction betwenn
the hard & soft palate

8. Retromolar pad
•The retromolar pad is a triangular shaped
pad of soft tissue used as a reference for
the posterior border of a mandibular
denture. It is comprised of non-keratinized
loose alveolar tissue.

•The uvula is the conic projection from the
posterior edge of the middle of the soft
palate, composed of connective tissue.
