TOOTHBRUSHING: -A toothbrush should be small enough to reach all teeth with bristles sufficiently firm as not to injure tooth enamel and gum tissues. Brush teeth if possible every after meal For the outside surface , and the inside surface of the back teeth point the bristle 45 degrees to the axis of the teeth. Then move the brush back and forth with several short strokes.
For the inside surface of the upper teeth and the lower front teeth, hold the brush vertically and make several gentle back and forth stroke over the gum tissue and teeth.
Clean the tongue with a brush too . Do not hurry brushing, but instead brush about 160 strokes . Rinse and have the client gargle thoroughly, wipe the mouth dry.
FLOSSING THE TEETH TECHNIQUES: a. Keep the fingers controlling the floss no more than 1.3 cm. ( ½ inch apart ) Do not force the floss between the teeth but insert it gently by moving back and forth where teeth touch each other.
b . Move the floss up and down 6 times while using both fingers, first on the other side of one tooth, and then on the other side until the surfaces are clean. c . go to the gum tissue with the floss but not into the gum, since this may result in discomfort, soreness and bleeding. d . Turn the floss from one middle finger to the other to bring up a fresh section of floss when it has become soiled.
