Order of Operations Chapter 3.3 - Numbers Section Recall Assigned: Order of operations applies inside brackets as well!!! ex/ 4 x [3 + 3 3 - 4 x (2-1)] - 6 The first step is to solve the brackets, but inside the brackets we have addition, exponents, subtraction and multiplication and more brackets, so we still follow BEDMAS inside the brackets...try it! Pg. 111-113 #5-6, 8-9, 10-12, 13-16

Problem Solving with Exponents Chapter 3.4 - Numbers section Recall New Assigned: When we work with powers, each part represents something… Base - What is happening Exponent - How many times it happens ex/ In this power 3 4 , we know that something is tripling 4 times...3x3x3x3…. Now, we can have a power with a coefficient (the number that is first, that multiplies the power… Coefficient - How many you start with ex/ You start with 100 dollars, and then your pay doubles every week for 3 weeks, how much money do you have after 5 weeks? Coefficient - What you start with = 100 Base - What happens - quadruples = 2 Exponent - How many times this happens - for five weeks = 5 Put it all together so you can solve: 100 ( 2 5 ) = 100 x (2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2) = 100 (32) = 3200 ***So, after 5 weeks you will have made $3200 Pg. 118-119 #3-11
