INTRODUCTION This case study focuses on the challenges faced by Ethical Business Company (EBC) as they try to be a flat organizational structure.
Bella Wilfer : A recent Darden graduate, was drawn to EBC's flat organizational structure. John Harmon : CEO of EBC, man behind the company's flat structure and democratic governance. Eugene Wrayburn : A colleague at EBC who shares insights of company’s environment and situation. Jenny Wren : Employee with experience in human capital consulting and handled HR functions in EBC. COMPANY INFORMATION Founded by John Harmon, who has a background in philosophy and law- Started to help companies prevent ethical issues- Growth spurt after Enron and WorldCom scandals- Published "Flat: A New Business Operating System" in 2008, flat organizational structures.Acquired boutique consulting firm Rokesmith and Handford . LLC in 2009. 1.WHAT ARE THE KEY FACTS OF THE CASE?
KEY FACTS OF THE CASE 1.EBC implemented a flat organizational structure. 2.Responsibilities were grouped into SUPPORT,SEEK and SEE. 3.Employees facing situations even being in flat structure organization. 4.New office space was having cubicles for every employee and shared office spaces. 5.Wilfer observed lack of initiative among project managers. 6.Uneven growth distribution for Rokesmith,Handford,LLC employees. 7.Wilfer questions flat structure's suitability for all companies. .
