Otalgia is defined as pain in the ear.,or ear ache. Or sensation of fullness or pain in the ear. It result of infection in the external ear /middle ear or trauma to the ear and head.
Etiology and risk factors… . Otalgia can be related to infectious process in the external ear and middle ear. Bacterial contaminates can enter the ear through insertion of unclean articles such as fingers or toys.
Insertion of any sharp objects into the ear canal can traumatize the skin and provide an open medium for infection. Installation of contaminated solutions into the ear canal or swimming in polluted water rises the risk for development of ear infection and inflammation.

PATHOPHYSILOGY Otalgia related to a problem in the ear usually the result of an inflammatory process that can be caused by trauma or infection. Inflammation causes chemical mediators to be released into the tissue resulting in the tissue edema, pain, heat and redness.
Continue… This inflammatory process results in swelling of tissue that I pings on nerve endings and surrounding areas, causing the otalgia.
Otalgia also can be caused by disorders in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), cranial nerves, face, scrap, pharynx, tonsils, thyroid, teeth or cervical muscle.
