Our Favorite Things: Mimsy XG tips and tricks

A highlights tour of Mimsy XG functions and add-ons that the support team wants to share.  With all Mimsy XG does, we want to make sure you are aware of some of our favorite features and utilities.  These include returning object to their “home” location, using our OAI-PMH provider, and our new reporting image function.

ARCHIVES LIBRARIES MUSEUMS GET IT TOGETHER: MEDIA LINKER Utility “crawls” through designated folders New Media Authority records are created The new Media records are associated to related items Uses a metadata extractor to write to MEDIA_DESCRIPTORS Linker uses a default set of rules The linking algorithm can be adjusted on a time and materials basis

ARCHIVES LIBRARIES MUSEUMS SINGLE FILE: AUTHORITY RECONCILER UPDATES The Authority Reconciler has been updated to support transferring of Object Authority links With slight variances in installations (custom database views), we request that sites run a diagnostic script from the Help Desk before we send installation materials Transfers links; does not merge records

4. BE CONSISTENT: SIZING IMAGES IN CRYSTAL ARCHIVES LIBRARIES MUSEUMS New Image Function Released Uses the function from Mobius to dynamically display pre-defined image sizes Background color may be defined Uses Apache / PHP on the image server Submit a JIRA ticket to request installation

5. STOP REPEATING YOURSELF: DYNAMIC PARAMETERS ARCHIVES LIBRARIES MUSEUMS Pass Records from Mimsy XG Directly to Reports Use KEYSET to pass all records Use KEY for a single record Variables can be used for any parent table (Loans, Conservation, etc.)
