3. Enduring Understanding Description makes use of observation, the process of using all human senses to make sense of the world. While description makes use of all human senses, it is the sense of sight that is inevitably most used. Effective description utilize both objectives and subjective description with a clear organizing principle (i.e. Chronological, emphatic, and spatial).

4. Essential Question What is Description? How is it done? What is a descriptive essay? What should its features be for it to be considered effective? What are the different style or techniques of description?

Description It is the expression of sensory experiences in vivid, specific, and concrete language – painting a picture with words Effectively written descriptions frame a subjects in such a way that the reader can imagine what the writer is describing, as though they were also with the writer. It is important to select which details your readers would need to know in order to richly experience what you are describing. It is important because without it , ideas and experience would be general and abstract – hard to readers to understand.
