Traveler Corine is a gentle and
kindhearted healer from the
Temple of Justice. This
masterful one piece metal model
from Metal King Studio / Sean
Sutter is a real treat to paint up!
Her face and hood are the focal
areas of the sculpt and this paint
job will emphasize that by
keeping that blue hood the
bluest and brightest section on
the model. It's a very detailed
piece despite its straightforward
appearance. She has a gown,
covered by a heavier gown, with
an apron over the top, and a few
satchels and bags. The relatively
small areas of the different
materials will be how we create
interest and contrast on this
model to keep the eye moving
all over!
Everything is Pro Acryl paint, but
the deep shadows are Citdael
contrast paints.

PREP: PAINTS

After cleaning prep, the model started out with a hot pink
basecoat followed by a zenithal of blue over the top with
the airbrush. Not only does the blue provide a nice guide
for the eye on where to place highlights, but since the
hood will be the same blue, it also helps us speed up the
process on a crucial part of the miniature.
This colorful underpainting style and approach is a lot of
fun, and will help the model feel a lot more saturated in
the end. It's going to be especially useful for giving her
face a really vibrant and alive feel, emphasizing the
conviction in her look off screen. After cleaning prep, the

real conviction with that the look that she is shooting off
screen.
Also because of this underpainting style, the ultramarine
and dark hot pink become paints that I will add to virtually
every mix that happens on this model. I use a traditional
style when it comes to painting, a lot of layering and
mixing! Every color has a mixed swatch on a base should
serve as a guide reference for what you are aiming for in
the gradients.
PREP: UNDERCOAT
THOUGHTS AND APPROACH

Paint mixing is something that really cannot be
taught just through images and ratios! But the
arrows with numbers in them indicate the paint
source, and rough ratio that I used. The box
labeled ‘mix’ is the end result you’re aiming for.
The paints are labeled with loose terms that guide
their usage. For example, the paints on the right
are labeled ‘highlight’ and ‘bright base’.
Highlight (Brightest paint)
Bright Base (Brighter tone /color than base)
Base (Main tone / color)
Shadow (Darker tone / color)
The highlight is the brightest paint used. Where
the bright base is generally a brighter version of
the base tone. It may not be literally the next paint
in the paint line, it means for *this* paint job, it’s
the bright base.
The base tone is just that, the main color!
and the shadow is paints used in the undercoat,
and or to blend into the recessed shadows of the
miniature.
The colors and names of the paints have been
taken directly from the monument hobbies color
swatches.
