PAP Smear Test
Why is it important?

A PAP smear test is a screening test
that is used to detect abnormal cells
in a woman's cervix. It is usually
recommended as part of routine
gynecological care for women
between the ages of 21 and 65.
It is used to screen cervical cancer
in a woman.

The test generally involves the
collection and examination of cells
from the cervix region (lower and
narrow end of the uterus) for the
existence of abnormal cells leading to
cancer.
The results of a pap smear test can
detect the presence of abnormal cells
that may be precancerous or
cancerous. If abnormal cells are
detected, further testing may be
needed to determine the appropriate
treatment.

PAP Smear Test

recommended for more-frequent screening
tests.
