RAMMOHAN ROY AND
HENRY DEROZIO

He was a great scholar and humanist he worked
throughout his life for the social - religious intellectual
and political regeneration of the Indians .

He was born in 1772 in small village in Bengal he studied
Sanskrit , and Hindu philosophy in varansi .

He was against social evils like sati, polygamy , child
marriage and caste discrimination .

5. e In 1829 Raja rammohan roy founded new religious
society known as the Atmiyasabha .

e The establishment of the Hindu college in 1817 was
a major event in history of Bengal .

e The young Bengal movement started under the
leader ship of Henry derizio who was teacher of
the Hindu college .

* The movement started by derizio was called
young Bengal movement and his followers know,

Another organization in northern India which aim to strengthen Hinduism
through reform was the Arya samaj Dayanand Saraswati the founder of
Arya samaj .

In 1863 Swami dayanand saraswati started preaching his doctrine of one

God.
PD + He propagated the motto " back to vedas " asserting that the vedas made
no mention of untouchability , child marriage .
The satyarth prakash was his most important work .

e In 1867 the prathnasamaj was started in Maharashtra
with the aim of reforming Hinduism and preaching
the worship of one God.
+ Mahadev Govind Ranade and R .G. Bhandarkar were
the two great leader of prathanasamaj it attacked
the caste system and pre dominance of the
rahmins campaigned against pardaprath

8. ANNIE BESANT

e Annie Besant an Irish woman who came to India in
1893 .

+ She propagated Vedic philosophy and argued
Indians to take pride in their culture .

+ Annie Besant was the founder of the central Hindu
college in Banaras .

renaissance and politics in 1917 .

+ She was elected as a president of the Indian

National Congress .

The ram krishna mission stood for religious and social reform
based on ancient culture of India.
