A parachute is a device used to slow the movement of a person or object as it falls or moves through the air by creating a drag. The word 'parachute' is derived from the French words parare, meaning to shield, or to ward off and chute, meaning a fall. Materials in various forms used to form parachute are: There are different Textile Materials Used in Parachute. E.g.. 8 Main part of parachute A basic parachute has 5 main parts . pilot chute   is a little canopy for pulling out a bigger one.   canopy   (top vent): it is the main one which usually is made from nylon.  Suspension lines   are those that can be found connecting the canopy to the harness.   H arness   is made up of group of straps which can fit to a person and will work as a body support. Ripcord (control lines) is fastened to the harness used for supports

The simple equipment works on the basic principle of ‘ air resistance’ and ‘ gravity ’ Parachute fabric have large surface area, made of a lightweight and flexible fabric, It creates an air drag, which acts in opposition to the fall The air molecules covered by the large surface area of the fabric tend to move upwards applying a reverse force to the force of gravity 10 Principle of parachute

11 Manufacturing process The general process flow of parachute manufacturing are Assembling Finishing Rigging Assembling Means To fit together the parts or pieces of parachute Finishing Means complete the manufacture or decoration of (a parachute by giving it an attractive surface appearance. Rigging Means the system of ropes, cables, or chains employed to support the structure of parachute.

Parachute makers continually search for better materials and designs . The most interesting future development for parachutes is their potential use to control the emergency descent of entire aircraft. As of June 1998, Ballistic Recovery Systems (BRS) had documented 121 lives saved by the devices.
