ADJECTIVES: One of the most important components of a sentence is the  adjective . This part of speech is so common that people use it almost automatically, both in speech and in writing. An adjective is a part of speech which describes, identifies, or quantifies a noun or a pronoun. So basically, the main function of an adjective is to modify a noun or a pronoun so that it will become more specific and interesting. Examples: She is a  beautiful  lady. It was a  memorable  trip. This swimming pool is  bigger  than that one. Ashley is  more intelligent  than Aldrin.

WRITING ACTIVITY: Write 8 sentences using nouns , pronouns , verbs and adjectives . Once you are done, underline the different parts of speech , so your classmate can identify and write it . Example : Yesterday , I went to the supermarket .

ADVERBS: An adverb  describes or modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb, but never a noun . It usually answers the questions of when, where, how, why, under what conditions, or to what degree. Adverbs often end in - ly . An adverb is a word that describes an adjective, a verb, or another adverb. I entered the room  quietly . Quietly  is describing how you entered (verb) the room. A cheetah is  always  faster than a lion. Always  is describing how frequently a cheetah is faster (adjective) than a lion.

Adverbs are easy to recognize because they usually end in – ly , but not always. Some of the most common adverb examples include: really, very well,  badly today, yesterday, everyday,  etc. sometimes, often, rarely,  etc. early, late, soon,  etc. here, there, everywhere,  etc .
