THE PARTS OF PLANTS
ROOTS Roots grow down into the soil. Roots hold the plant in place. They prevent the plant from falling. Roots take in water and nutrients from the soil and bring it to the stem.
TYPES OF ROOTS
STEMS Stems connect the roots to the rest of the plants. The stem supports the plant, holding it upright. It holds the leaves up so they get plenty sunlight. The stem serves like a road way or highway that carries water and nutrients from the roots to the other parts of the plant. It also transports food made by the leaves to the rest of the plants.
Some plants store the food they make in their stems.
A tree has one strong, hard, and woody stem called TRUNK.
Grass and vines have soft stems.
LEAVES Green leaves take in sunlight and air. Leaves make the gas we breathe called oxygen. Leaves can have many colors. Leaves plants have different shapes, size and texture too. Some leaves are wide and hairy. Most leaves have veins. These veins are like tiny pipes.
Some leaves of plants can be eaten.
Some leaves may be used to help cure common sickness.
There are leaves that can be used as materials for making roofs and walls of houses.
The most attractive part of a plant. It come in many shapes, sizes, colors, and smells. It makes a sticky powder called POLLEN. Petals attracts birds and insects. FLOWERS
