PARTS OF THE PLANTS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

Did you know?? BOTANIST – are the scientist who studies or experiments with plants. TREES- are the largest plants.

THE PARTS OF PLANTS

ROOTS Roots grow down into the soil. Roots hold the plant in place. They prevent the plant from falling. Roots take in water and nutrients from the soil and bring it to the stem.

TYPES OF ROOTS

STEMS Stems connect the roots to the rest of the plants. The stem supports the plant, holding it upright. It holds the leaves up so they get plenty sunlight. The stem serves like a road way or highway that carries water and nutrients from the roots to the other parts of the plant. It also transports food made by the leaves to the rest of the plants.

Some plants store the food they make in their stems.

A tree has one strong, hard, and woody stem called TRUNK.

Grass and vines have soft stems.
