To talk about an action that took place in the
past:
He gotup, paidthe bill and left.

3. To talk about a state continued for some time,
but that is now finished:
I wentto school in Scotland.
To talk about actions that happened regularly
in the past:
I oftenplayedtennis with her.
They neverwentto the cinema when they
livedin the country.

4. Rules
When the verb ends in –e,the past simple is
formed by adding -d( care-cared).
When the verb ends in a consonant+ -y, and
adding–ied (study-studied ).
Whenthe verbendsin cons+ vow+ cons
Double the lastconsand add-ed
Stop -Stopped
