Pasturage Land Pasture derived from the Latin word pastus , past participle of pascere , "to feed”. It means certain land unsigned for grazing to the catles of the village or villages is known as pasturage land

Section 39 Regulation of the use of Pasturage Land The right of grazing on free pasturage lands shall extended only to the cattle of the village or villages to which such land belongs or have been assigned and shall regulated by the rules to be from time to time either generally or in any particular instance, prescribed by the collector with the sanction of state Government. The collector’s decision in any case of dispute as to the said right of grazing shall be conclusive.

Pastures and Grazing Lands There are pastures and grazing lands of about 4% of the total land area of India. These are mainly seen in hilly areas. In the past, there were some definite grazing lands in each village of India. But it is almost non-existent, so to say. These are being used for human settlement and such other related purposes. Himachal Pradesh has the maximum land under pastures and grazing lands in India. Land of 40 Acres is fixed for 100 cattles
