Post cataract surgery patient consultation

1 st post operative day It is normal for the eye to appear red, feel gritty and itchy for a while after cataract surgery. Some clear fluid discharge is common. After a week, even mild discomfort should disappear. In most cases, healing will take between 2 and 6 weeks

Cont …. T he need for follow up after 30 days is emphasized  T he postoperative medication regimen is explained Steroids are used 6 times per day for the first week and tapered each week over 6 weeks. Topical antibiotics are used 3 times daily for 2 weeks postoperatively

Using your eye drops start your drops the morning after the operation only use them on an operated eye wash your hands before using your drops do not stop your eye drops without advice from your doctor do not let anyone else use your eye drops

Wash your hands. Tilt your head back. Look up at the ceiling. Gently pull down the lower eyelid. Squeeze the bottle until a drop goes into your eye. Close your eye and wipe away any excess liquid. Do not let the bottle touch the eye. How to apply eye drops

advised to see an ophthalmologist immediately if they have sudden pain redness decreased vision

Don'ts Do not perform heavy lifting or strenuous activities. To help prevent infections, do not swim or use a hot tub. Do your best to not rub your eye(s) after surgery. Do not wear eye makeup and consider avoiding face cream or lotion. To prevent irritation of the eyes, avoid settings with higher levels of dust, wind, pollen, and dirt.

do not splash water directly on your face, rather use a washcloth to carefully clean your face.

At the end At the first month follow-up visit, patients undergo refraction and spectacles are prescribed based on their needs.  The eye is examined comprehensively for any sequelae following surgery and the other eye is assessed in order to plan the timing of a cataract operation on the second eye, if needed
