JAI HIND Virendra Kumar Maurya Assistant Professor CAEHS COLLEGE ,MEERUT Subject- Medical Ethics And Legal Aspects Topic - Patients Safety & Quality

Patient safety and quality in radiology are important considerations that involve a number of factors, including:  Radiation dose The International Commission of Radiological Protection has established principles to reduce the risk of harm from ionizing radiation. These include ensuring that radiation and contrast doses are as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) while still providing clinically valuable procedures.  Patient information Patients and their representatives should be provided with adequate information about the benefits and risks of radiation-based procedures.  Radiographer education Radiographers should receive education on radiation safety, including the biological effects of radiation, risk/benefit analysis, and typical doses for each type of examination.

Quality control Radiological equipment should be regularly quality controlled.  Patient handling Safe patient handling is an important consideration for all healthcare professionals, including radiologists, radiographers, nurses, and support staff.  Quality-specific data Establishing a patient-safety system requires quality-specific data. Key performance indicators (KPIs) should be relevant, attainable, and well defined.  Clinical decision support systems Clinical decision support systems can enhance patient safety and service quality by promoting appropriate imaging use and reducing unnecessary exams.
