P.B.L {GROUP-2}   TOPIC:- 1.) Effect of growing food on environment 2.) hazardous effect of fertilizers and pesticides on human life, soil  and water bodies

In this book we have explained the effects of growing food on environment and effects of using pesticides and fertilizers on human life and water bodies. ABOUT :-

Effect of growing food on environment * The environmental damage of food production from conventional agriculture is not limited to deforestation and pollutants associated with crop growth. Harvesting the crop represents a significant amount of nutrients, water, and energy being taken from the land . * Agricultural production dominates many of the impacts. This is particularly true for impacts related to land use such as biodiversity and soil quality, impacts related to the use of pesticides (aquatic and terrestrial ecotoxicity ), and impacts of the use of fertilizers and nutrient losses (N and P) in general.

Effect of growing food on environment There are a variety of issues created by modern-day food production. By the time the food you eat gets to your table, much of the environmental impact has already occurred The growing, producing, and transporting of food can create a long list of environmental contaminants that can have adverse effects on the health of humans and the ecosystem . These contaminants include ammonia pollution and the emission of different nitrogen compounds that disrupt the soil as well as animal and plant life.

Effect of growing food on environment Food production takes up a significant portion of the world’s natural resources. Livestock is the largest contributor, with one-third of the global arable land being used to grow feed for livestock and another 25% being used for grazing.  Greenhouse gas ( Ghg ) emissions, such as CO2, are created when fossil fuels are used during several aspects of the food cycle, including food production and distribution.

Effects of using pesticides are neurological outcome-Researches have showed that exposure to pesticides have worsened the neurological outcome of people. dermatitis/eczema-dermatitis is inflammation of the skin, typically characterized by itchiness, redness and rashes . In cases of short duration, there may be small blisters, while in long-term cases the skin may become thickened.

Effects of using pesticides are If the credits of pesticides include enhanced economic potential in terms of increased production of food and fibre , and amelioration of vector-borne diseases, then their debits have resulted in serious health implications to man and his environment .  There is now overwhelming evidence that some of these chemicals do pose a potential risk to humans and other life forms and unwanted side effects to the environment

Effects of using pesticides are Groundwater pollution due to pesticides is a worldwide problem .  According to the USGS, at least 143 different pesticides and 21 transformation products have been found in ground water, including pesticides from every major chemical class(thus we should stop using chemical fertilizers). The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that at the global level, 3 million severe pesticide poisoning episodes occur annually, and of these, a minimum of 300,000 people die.
