The Peace
A beautiful poem written by
Dr. Sylvia Hartman.
Prepared by
Ms.Rukhsana

Peace
The wind is now
a roaring, smashing
monster of destruction,
raking all man s work
from the valleys,
from the vales,
and sends them spinning,
broken flying -
but all of that is
not its core,
its center is in truth
eternal stillness
bright blue skies
and all you hear
are gentle whispers
far away
and unimportant

Theme:
Dr.Hartmann's poem PEACE teaches us
the way to attain peace. She explains that
wind when is energetic, it roars and
smashes and destructs everything on its
way. But the same wind when comes with
soft nature, it awakes the eternal
satisfaction in man. Similarly everything
has good and bad aspects, and to attain
peace one needs to focus on only good
aspects of life.
Brief Summary( you can add quotations in the beginning and in the end)
Peace is a metaphorical poem written by Dr.
Silvia Hartmann. The main theme of the poem is
WIND that is fierce while in rage but gentle at its
core. She unfolds the truth hidden in the depth and
makes one know the actual nature of wind.
Everything in this world has positive and negative
aspects. Firstly the poetess says that wind is
symbol of hardships. Its looks like an aggressive
monster who smashes each and everything that
comes in its way. when wind is in angry mood it
hang up men work but when we look at the
positive aspect of wind, then it is a symbol of life.
It fills all the space in gentle and calm way .it only
whispers and shows its presence.

The poem “Peace” written by Dr.
Hartmann describes two natural
aspects of wind, storm and peace. In
first stanza the poet explains the cruel
role of wind. He says that in the form
of storm, wind destroys everything.
Her anger hits beautiful buildings,
trees and fields. It grounds the
wonderful works of man. It ruins
everything that comes in its way. After
destroying, it takes the broken pieces
along and spreads here and there.
In second stanza the poet describes the
sweet aspect of wind. Here the wind has
taken the form of a gentle breeze. The
poet says what he has described before is
not the reality. The reality of wind lies in
its gentleness and peace. It gives life to
buds, birds and humans. The bright sky
looks so blue and cloudless. There is
peace and harmony everywhere. Only the
mild and faint whisper of breeze can be
heard somewhere at a distance.

Summary (Outstanding)
"Peace" is a metaphorical, thought-
provoking and moralizing poem gleaned
by the pen of a German poetess, Dr.
Silvia Hartmann. In this poem, the
poetess describes negative and positive
aspects of wind which is destructive when
in frenzy of rage but most of the time it is
peaceful, calm and gentle.
10
When the wind is in a fierce mood, it is a
monster of destruction. Like a monster it
roars and breaks things apart. It is so
catastrophic that it completely destroys
all man's work. This may be anything
ever built by man. Everywhere its havoc
is the same. It levels everything to the
ground. In its rage it throws broken thinks
in the air whirling and flying. However,
this is not its real nature. The truth is that
it is usually peaceful when the sky is
bright blue. It is calm and quiet like
whispers coming from far away. 11
12
Alas! people do not give any importance
to this aspect of wind.
In short, the poem awakens a
consciousness of soothing effect of wind
in us that ultimately subdues its evil
power. It encourages us to appreciate
peace, love and benevolence instead of
thinking about bad things or war. It gives
us a lesson that we have to experience
storms to enjoy peace.
