About This Presentation

Pediatric Radiology- Congenital and development conditions

Slide Content

MELORHEOSTOSIS/Leri's disease
Imaging features: Multiple areas of dense hyperostosis are observed with a linear and segmental
distribution corresponding to one or more sclerotomes in this condition.
Superficial cortical deposits are the rule, though the disease may also encroach the medullary cavity. The resulting contour has been
likened to candle wax flowing down the margin of the bone.
The disease is usually monomelic and involves bones in one limb. Bony overgrowth can occur. Soft-
tissue ossification commonly occurs in the periarticular region between two affected bones of a limb.

Osteopetrosis

Pyknodysostosis
Skull: The radiologic findings include generalized osteosclerosis with thick sclerotic skull base, vault,
and orbital rims. There is a marked delay in the closure of sutures with the presence of wormian bones.
The mandible is frequently hypoplastic with loss of normal angulation (become obtuse)
Spine: Changes in the spine include sclerosis of vertebral bodies, segmentation anomalies, and
spondylolisthesis
Limbs: The bones of the hand are short with hypoplasia or osteolysis of the distal phalanges (acro-
osteolysis) . The medullary cavity of tubular bones may be maintained or mildly narrow.
