NOUN PHRASE NOUN PHRASE: V3 & NOUN PHRASE: V-ING

Noun Phrase = Determiner + Adjective + Noun What’s Noun Phrase? Example: The red car My blue laptop An orange cat Remember: Noun Phrase can either be a Subject or an Object. Remember: Adjective complements Noun, not the other way around.

Gerund is a condition where Verb becomes a Noun or an Adjective. In this case, it becomes an Adjective. What’s Gerund? Gerund can be in form of Verb 3, or Verb + - ing . Remember: When it becomes Gerund, it no longer becomes a Verb, but a Noun or an Adjective. Examples: A swimming pool A tired person Some injured players Gerund often becomes an adjective than becomes a Noun.

Noun Phrase: Verb 3 and Verb + - ing NP: V3 S + V3 (+ Object) Noun Phrase: Verb 3 is usually an adjective. Otherwise, it is a passive voice in a phrase. Passive Voice = S + Vtb + V3 (by + O), example: Kitab at- Tawheed is written by Shaikh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab At-Tamimi. If we make the example into a subjective Noun Phrase in a sentence, it would be: Kitab at- Tawheed , written by Shaikh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab At-Tamimi, is a great book. If we make the example into an objective Noun Phrase in a sentence, it would be: We are studying Kitab at- Tawheed , written by Shaikh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab At-Tamimi. NP: V- ing S + V- ing (+ Object) Noun Phrase: V- ing is usually an adjective, as well. Otherwise, it is a present continuous in a phrase. Present Continuous = S + Vtb + V- ing (by + O), example: Zamud is carrying a bag. If we make the example into a subjective Noun Phrase in a sentence, it would be: Zamud carrying a bag is our teacher. If we make the example into an objective Noun Phrase in a sentence, it would be: Our teacher is Zamud carrying a bag. GO! GO!

Know this: Noun Phrase in a sentence actually has conjunction phrase: That is, that are, which is, who is, who are. Example: Kitab at- Tawheed which is written by Shaikh At-Tamimi is a great book. Zamud who is carrying a bag is our teacher. These two sentences can actually be shorten into: - Kitab at- Tawheed is a great book. Zamud is our teacher. The Noun Phrase only complements the sentence. Okay.
