Social perception is the study of how people form impressions of and make inferences about other people. Social perception refers to using and exploring social cues to make judgments about relationships and people. Social Perception means how we come to know other people.
There are four main components of social perception: observation, attribution, integration, and confirmation.
W e have a tendency to see what we want to see in other people. This basic idea is called perceptual accentuation . Perceptual accentuation leads you to see what you expect and want to see. For example, a child may easily spot a tot shop at the corner of a crowded street hidden among other shops. You magnify that which will satisfy your needs and wants.
Perceptual accentuation is the process by which your cognitive biases affect how you perceive events, and in turn maintains those biases. It applies on everything from our seeing an oasis when there is nothing, or to the maintenance of stereotypes to why anxiety is hard to get rid of .
A person perceives the world from his attributions and stereotypes.
We do this when we meet people, too. Say you are subconsciously craving a friend. Well, you are more likely to notice the friendly aspects of other people. These aspects will create a stronger impression. Or, say that you are in a part of town you're not used to and you are afraid of being mugged. Your perception will accentuate possibly dangerous aspects of others. While this helps you in some senses, it is also misleading and can cause you to make hasty or inaccurate https://rohitrohan09.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/perception-cartoon.jpg?w=620
